So I haven't seen this plugged anywhere except a Philly radio station, but Kathleen Edwards who IMO is a pretty exceptional singer songwriter put out a very nice little acoustic EP today called Dogs and Alcohol. It's very worth the 11 minutes of listening.

i feel like this RHCP album - which honestly isn't bad - is like, the least heralded non-surprise album by a major artist ever?
Surprising since it's the first with Frusciante in like 15 years, but idk how many Gen Z / young millenials even care about RHCP. I think it's better than the last two for sure.
First time through the RHCP album I didn't like it at all, but after listening again there's at least a couple songs that I enjoyed. Here Ever After and The Great Apes were nice. Overall, still not very impressed by it and Stadium Arcadium is still the last album of theirs that I really liked.
The sonics of the band have always been way more compelling with Frusciante there, especially after he left the first time. He (and to a lesser extent, Flea and Chad Smith) are trying to pull the band as far into interesting directions as they can while still having to navigate Anthony Kiedis' songwriting. The results aren't always good but the push-pull is often fascinating

I preferred the Danger Mouse produced album to this one personally. The new album is solid, and if your a RHCP Stan, you're gonna like it. Their sound from Dani California on is just a caricature for me. The Danger Mouse album was kind of exciting because I thought even though some of the songs were weak, they had found a way to reinvent their sound while still being true to who they are as a band.
I should also put the disclaimer that both time I've seen them headline a fest I thought they were absolutely terrible, and that definitely impacts how I listen to record.
