I am not sure how to vote here. I don't dislike either album, but I personally can't dance, fuck, drink, emote or skinny dip to either of these albums with any reliable rhythm. A great album must move me to do one of these five things. Since neither really moves me, and I don't dislike either, it is hard to decide here.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

This is legitimately difficult. I've listened to both multiple times today. Magbay is obviously more fun. I like bopping around to it. At the end of the day Magbay is a little more of an autopilot album for me and Simz has big, holy shit, grab my attention moments. Leaves more of a dent. The skits are too much imo. Could have trimmed a track maybe two.
alright, as much as i think MagBay is more bust-a-nutt-able to, and find it preposterous that some others don't perceive that about the album--Simz takes it here for me. I love both a whole lot, and this is a close call, but yeah....

My personal album of the year was Remi Wolf which honestly sounds like someone dancing, fucking, drinking, emoting and skinny dipping all at the same time
5.5/four tet, daphni b2b floating points, avalon emerson 5.12/neil young 5.19/mannequin pussy 5.21/serpentwithfeet 5.25/hozier 6.12-16/bonnaroo 6.28/goose 6.29/goose 9.17/the national + the war on drugs 9.23/sigur ros 9.27-29/making time 10.17/air
Whatever y’all want to do for yourselves but Mag Bay is the better album. I’m having more fun getting down to this album than you’ are pretending Simz is interesting,

I have listened to them both back to back a few times now and Mercurial World has actually REALLY grown on me. It isn't an album I had listened to much because the little Atari game noises and her pitch influenced my initial thoughts on the album and turned me off a little Which I can't really explain because I am a Grimes fan and there is a similarity there. I also did like the Simz album. I thought it was one of the better albums of 2021. But I don't think either of these is the "Album of the Year" so I was being a little shit about it.
