That's a pretty narrow view of that song imo. It's pretty obvious to me that the message in that song isn't for the people of inforoo who know that non-LGBT people shouldn't say faggot.
It's whatever though, I don't care to litigate it here. I was mostly just fucking around.
nah i dont fuck with what youre saying here. even if well intentioned, LGBT people (myself included) pretty overwhelmingly disapprove of his use of the slur and deadnaming here, no matter how well intentioned. the ripple effect this will cause in straight people using faggot more is going to be very apparant in the coming months. imagine a white person saying the n word on a song to show how they overcame racism as a child? i dont care who you are or how you intend to use that word, if you arent in that community, dont use it. really sick and tired of people endlessly defending him over this. I’m still a fan of Kendrick for sure, but that song was unnecessary and will do more damage than good. Have already seen so much hostility from his cishet fanbase towards queer people criticising that song
Can’t wait to be at a Kendrick headlining set at Roo and here 45,000 mostly straight people rapping along to the word faggot. Won’t be a weird situation as a queer person lol.
Also, even with good intentions fuck him for choosing to work with Kodak Black, despite rape charges. Why not do a feature with Santana or Nas X if you’re really looking to support LGBT in hip hop?
Context is everything. There’s a major difference between Kendrick using the word as a slur and Kendrick using the word addressing that he used to say it when he was younger and didn’t know better, and saying we can all say it the day a white girl can say the n word. Which is never. It’s addressing his own hypocrisy where he told that white girl at Hangout fest he brought on stage that she shouldn’t use the n word, so that he should meet his own standards and not say when it isn’t necessary. Him saying it is necessary in the context to let people know how big it’s impact is. Clearly worked because of how much it’s being talked about. There’s others who are gay or trans and have no problem with it, and see the message he is stating which no other rap artist, especially at his caliber is doing in this day of age. Could he have done it differently, sure he could’ve have. But I don’t think it would’ve conveyed as much as it did without it grabbing everyone’s ears with him saying the verses like that.
Saucy Santana, the material Gworl rapper. I dont think he’d fit the vibe super well but definitely would have loved to see him feature lil nas x or zay

i really liked the album but thought that even though it's about perspective and forgiveness i can still recognize the things i disagree with kendrick about (cancel culture, kodak black's inclusion), recognize his artistic intent when talking about those things, and come to my own conclusion that he could've approached some topics with a little more tact
i understand his usage of the f slur but that the same time he was already telling a pretty powerful and unique story for a hip hop track. i think if he didn't say it people would still walk away thinking "wow he stood up for trans rights" but now people are saying "wow he stood up for trans rights but i'm not sure if i agree with his approach."
if sexual assault victims and lgbt folk don't love kendrick's artistic choices on the album i don't think it's because they just don't understand. their criticism is valid
i was watching an episode of survivor recently where an asian guy in the asian tribe (they actually split up all of the tribes by race on one season) kept telling asian jokes and everyone in the tribe told him that even though they understand his jokes and that he's joking that there will be other people that don't understand that and use his jokes to further stereotypes. kendrick made a decision to be intentionally offensive and if people don't think he nailed his messaging i don't think it's simply "people not understanding," it means he did it in a way that didn't connect with all of his audience

very much agree with you and this is worded incredibly well. I hate seeing all of the ppl saying “you just dont get it” to lgbt people and SA survivors. It is NOT your place ever to tell people how they should interpret or feel about a song that directly touches upon their lived experiences. Which is my main point i’m trying to get across. The message of Auntie Diaries could have easily been conveyed without any misgendering or slurs and it would be widely accepted. And again, Kodak Black being on the record with songs criticising rapists and abusers is hypocrtical as fuck. It’s an insult to survivors.
how is that more accurate unless Kendrick is saying a gay slur in every song?
i meant more in terms of Tarantino being the one writing/directing the movie, i.e. Kendrick isn't reciting someone else's lyrics
i don't have a dog in the fight either way i just found the analogy flawed
I mean they’re both basically playing a character as a way to condemn racism/homophobia. No one actually thinks Kendrick is homophobic for saying that or Leo racist for saying a racist slur.
I saw DEVO last night and can now confirm that they would be awesome at Bonnaroo
josh freese is playing drums for 100 gecs. devo sounds perfect for bonnaroo really hope they play soon. devo late night would rock
Josh Freese is a monster!!! He pulled double duty at Coachella playing with 100 gecs and Danny Elfman. And yes!!!! Late night DEVO set at Roo would be amazing!!!! Book it you cowards!!!!!!
Bruce Springsteen seems likely. Just announced European tour with a gap between June 13 and June 21.
lmao no
There's "more dates in Belgium and the UK to be announced", he's almost definitely doing a European festival that weekend
Glastonbury then most likely although that's a big gap. July has Rock Werchter in Belgium, can almost guarantee that one.
I wouldn't say it's out of the question that he makes the trip to Bonnaroo. Definitely since this tour has been planned since 2019. Long time for Bonnaroo to be aware of his touring schedule.

he's like 80 years old, he's not crossing the Atlantic twice in 7 days
