who do we think are the most likely picks for legacy headliner this year?
I would say the pool is: Stones McCartney Springsteen The Cure Dolly Dead
Unless I’m forgetting someone. Waters has advertised this tour as a farewell tour and he said there wouldn’t be any outdoor shows. Stones are probably too expensive but they got U2 after 2016 so who knows.
I think if they put up the money, they could get the Stones. They don't seem very adverse to playing festivals at all. Question is, would LN be willing to make that gamble and investment?

I’ll start by saying that the Stones still put on a great show and in a vaccum would be a good booking.
That said, I really hope they don’t book the Stones. They need a sell out and I don’t think the Stones as the centerpiece in the year of our lord 2023 would get them there. With their booking cost the rest of the lineup would almost certainly suffer greatly.
That's a good point, the rest of the lineup clearly was hurt by the money they had to spend on U2 that year.
I'm full-send on Gaga. She wouldn't be Stones / U2 / Paul expensive, and she'd sell a hell of a lot of tickets.
the other headliners were RHCP, Weeknd and Chance with Lorde and Travis Scott in the undercard. U2 didn’t drain the budget by any means
you’re looking at the 2017 lineup with the benefit of hindsight imo
Travis Scott hadn’t blown up yet when he was on the lineup; Lorde was years past her debut with only a second album rumored. Chance was overbooked because it was Bonnaroo
4 5 and 6 that year was Chance, Major Lazer, Flume—in 2017

RHCP and The Weeknd were playing sold out arenas and Chance at his peak and was headlining other stuff. Lorde was probably at her peak and Travis was still very big pre-Astroworld. Flume and Major Lazer were also pretty big and iirc the leak had Martin Garrix on it. The lineup was pretty huge.

Travis had definitely blown up lol he was third on his day

Chance was not overbooked? He was 3rd at ACL above Gorillaz and Killers, first at Lolla, second at Gov Ball, 3rd at Boston Calling. Roo was the only one he didn’t “headline”.

i mean he was a decently strong 3 but he certainly wasn’t nearly as big as he would be just a year later. he was third on his day but billed under The XX (also third on their day). Using him as an example of a strong 2017 lineup is hindsight imo.
Side note worst show I’ve ever seen on the farm, and I’m a fan

how was Travis both a “strong 3” but using him to show the strength of the lineup is using hindsight?

Lorde's second album came out the week after Bonnaroo 2017 and it was announced months beforehand. Two singles were out by the time Bonnaroo rolled around.

I've been waiting on The Cure for years and personally love them more but Dolly at Roo would just be some next level shit.

yeah I was kind of a “Dolly wouldn’t headline” guy but after seeing Stevie’s crowd, she totally would

Lost Lands lineup just dropped and there's a fucking Pendulum dj set. They wouldn't headline of course but Pendulum at roo would be crazy. Didn't even know they were still doing shit
