they're pretty polarizing. i have friends that have said a similar thing where they said they hated them at first but they grew on them. remix album is kick ass too. their songs are so catchy and they have such catchy hooks and their use of genres is impressive. i think ringtone is a pretty great tune no matter what your taste is. excited for 10,000 gecs

I liked gecs but wasn't sure how it would translate live. Could've either seen it sucking ass or being good. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them and they were really good so I'll definitely be there. They're a can't miss.
yeah i think my feelings after the set were exacerbated by the shock i felt bc i’d never listened to them.
i also think they’ve gotten much better at performing since then per the videos i’ve seen recently. then, i just remember it felt extremely screechy and annoying with terrible sound quality
i’m sure i was/am a little harsh bc i didn’t like them at the time but i’m excited to try them live again

their sets are pretty concise because their songs are short and they don't have much music. they make good use of time though with an acoustic song, a xylophone song, some deep cuts, and unreleased songs. also laura is an incredible frontwoman and dylan has fun with it too

I'm really excited about this set. Especially if it's late night. I think between them, Luda, Marc and maybe Suicide boys there are makings for a very Bonnaroo "weird" and good LN Saturday. Couple thoughts on Gecs:
1. Super excited. Never seen.
2. Wish they played some from the 100 Gecs tape like Gum, Dog Food, bloodstains. Beyond really liking those songs and thinking they would bang live, I hate that when I intro my friends to Gecs, I basically start with these more accessible songs then pull the rug from them by telling them none of these will be played live.
3. I really hope the new album is out in ample time before Roo. After roaming around Youtube it seems like this could end up containing their best songs yet.

I'll be there no matter what.
10,000 gecs has an expected spring release so i feel like they're touring behind it this summer. they're supposed to do coachella so i'm guessing the album will be out before then
i'll have to check out the 100 gecs tape. i haven't listened to it but from the setlists i've seen they don't do songs off of it
My ideal Saturday would be nap all day in the T00L pit line -> T00L -> Marc -> gecs. Make it happen schedule gods!
a late night 100 gecs spot sounds like a better show but a daytime 100 gecs set would help with schedule conflicts. i think it'd be cool if marc rebillet and 100 gecs would share a stage for late night. i really want to see flume and that would make skip him. hopefully i can see chvrches and tool on top of all of that

Yeah just try it out for the sake of getting even more into them. It's their easiest listen and only 5 tracks. One other banger I always want to highlight is Of Course I still Love you by Dylan Brady from his 2018 EP Peace and Love. Again, doesn't help you get ready for the show but absolute flames.

i appreciate the rec and i'm excited to listen to more gecs music

The new songs do rip live. A lot of times a band or artist will play their brand new or unreleased stuff live and it doesn't go over great in the crowd but that wasn't the case when I saw gecs in October. The energy was just as high then as it was most other points in the set.
I find them to be highly obnoxious. The punk in me approves, but they still annoy me. I doubt I'll be trying for rail, but between Buku and Bonnaroo, I'll likely get to see at least some of one of those shows. Can't say I can't wait, but I am a little bit intrigued.
here’s the most digestible gecs. their recent sets have a bunch of new songs from their upcoming album, but only a few of these aren’t played live. i think 100 gecs is their best.
i'm ready to wild out at bonnaroo so i think i'm going to recreate dylan's tattoo on saturday for the show. i'm also ready for a release date for 10,000 gecs because they said it'd be out around this time
