It’s an official SXSW event. Badges and wristbands get in without a ticket if capacity allows just like all other Sxsw events.
Gotcha. That wording is tricky though. Does that mean Ticketmaster is holding back tickets for badgeholders, or that *if* it does not sell out, there will be spots for badgeholders? Because if they sell the full venue tomorrow on Ticketmaster, it will definitely sell out.
My guess is a portion of the tickets won’t be sold.
y'all who've been, is Friday a shit show compared to other days?
it's considerably more stacked so id hope it would be a little more spread out, but imagine more people take off for that Friday than Thursday even w st. Patty's

In my experience the day stuff on Friday and Saturday are definitely more crowded but the official stuff at night are often less crowded because a lot of the industry people don’t stay the whole week and at that point it’s really only music events going on. That said if you plan on going to a single venue and just hanging out all day I wouldn’t worry about it. Jumping around to different venues after 2-3 on the Friday can be trickier depending on where you are going.

I'm headed to FloodFest tomorrow at Mohawk and can't get there until around 12:30....will I be looking at a pretty hefty line since doors are at 11:00?

Maybe but you can definitely tell the crowds are lighter this year.
Caught Zola Jesus (solo) and Magdalena Bay last night. Just watched Pom Pom Squad with Yard Act, Midnight, Los Bitchos, Sinead O’Brien, Vision Video and Crows for the rest of the day.
Empire announced a surprise Ashanti concert tonight. Badges only.

You should be fine. Don’t think I’ve ever had an issue getting into something that early on a day that wasn’t a Saturday.

Looks like I can get to the Mohawk today at 11:00 now...I couldn't find anything on there website and was wondering if there is any food there?
how was the crowd at Mohawk?
The crowd the solid all day, started getting busier around 3:00 but still didn't feel too claustrophobic. I believe a small line started forming around 2:30 but still not unmanageable.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
SXSW 2022 in the books and I'm exhausted. Unlike previous years, I was able to attend nearly every single day. From what I noticed, the crowds were definitely lighter. A more subdue SXSW with the streets not as dense as years before. 6th St. didn't look as insane but I think that could also be chalked up to more venues moving outside of that area. Not many unofficial events helps out too. No long line at the downtown Drafthouse anymore (RIP).
The security definitely looked unprepared. Could likely be due to them not knowing what to expect after two years or not even knowing what SXSW is. There were some noticeable long lines here or there but if you got there early enough to cared to wait, you could easily get anywhere you wanted to with no credentials. That's unlike previous years where some venues were virtually impossible to get into no matter what time.
Every act I saw were fantastic. Managed to hit about 18 shows altogether. Caught Wet Leg twice who are getting even better live. Yard Act and Just Mustard are going to blow up. King Hannah was as great a I hoped they'd be. Desperate Journalist were who performing their first ever shows in the states were my favorite discovery. And Los Bitchos was probably the most fun set of the week. Judging by all the reviews so far, they are a top hit at the festival.
Overall, a good return that reminded me of the older years before it was getting insanely big. The travel restrictions definitely hurt the overall talent pool but that was expected. Looking forward to next year.
