TL;DR: The show is really good an everyone should (or should have) tune in to this
I just finished watching the first The Smile Live Livestream show and I need to talk about it. I assume the majority of people watching from this board would be watching the later show tonight for the Americas but I wanted to get on it early and see the first one. So, here's some half-assed thoughts of my own as first impressions while watching the show:
The Smile Livestream #1:
1- Pana-Vision - Calm song to start with Thom on piano. A stripped-down Amnesiac song is my first feel for it. Not bad!
2- The Smoke - Recently released single. Very groovy and catchy bass line through this one
3- Speech Bubbles - Sounds to me like a calm Amnesiac/Kid A C-side again...probably just the harp...
4- Thin Thing - First more punky-tippy sounding song of the set. Faster-paced with a touch of synth in there. This one will get people moving
5- Open the Floodgates - Back to calm and beautiful for this one. This feel very much like a closing song for a movie (derp) but like a sad romance movie...actually sounds quite a bit like a song/piece of score in Almost Famous... lovely piece of work
6- Free in the Knowledge - Good simple guitar hook/chorus to start from Thom. Instead of kicking into a higher gear halfway through, though, it transitions into the next song a bit wildly...very cool
7- A Hairdryer - Faster-paced, this one sounds quite a bit like Bodysnatchers to me. Always a good thing
8- Waving A White Flag - ..sounded fine? After A Hairdryer, this one sounded particularly slow to me.
9- We Don't Know What Tomorrow Brings - More fast-paced again. This could be the hit mainstream single if there ended up being one somehow. Actually sort of reminds me of Metric or something. I like this a lot. Crowd did too
10- Skirting on the Surface - Radiohead song. Fits this set in how it's balancing faster and slower-paced songs. And it's great so, fair play.
Thom Banter: "we were trapped in a house for 2 years...found out us humans are all quite similar.. but you know, gotta get in your factions and fight each other...bolloks"
11- The Same - A bit slower again to start but builds up in angst. Great piano work.
12- The Opposite - A counter song? More frenetic, like a Hail to the Thief song. Groovy and tremendous
Thom banter: "This has been all too brief. We'll be back when we write some more songs. Just haven't written them yet..."
13- You Will Never Work in Television Again - The song we've all heard by this point, a real star. Love it. I just hope they write more like this.
Encore:
Thom banter: "Must feel weird to get out finally, does for me. We don't have much of anything more to give but we'll give you what we've got"
14- Just Eyes and Mouth - This is really good. Johnny's work on this is the star, super catchy. This could've been an In Rainbows song.
Show length: 1 hour 10 minutes
Huge highlights were A Hairdryer, The Opposite, We Don't Know What Tomorrow Brings, Thin Thing, and Just Eyes and Mouth. Overall this show was very good and well worth the livestream cost. I can't wait to hopefully hear these songs played live some day. And if you're on the fence about watching one of the livestreams, absolutely do it.

Had a friend who went and have some merch waiting. And nobody really outside of the crew watched The Smile performance in person at Worthy Farm? Or youre referring to anyone who just watched it on the broadcast.
Although I am in the US, I watched the first show, can have the volume higher at 3 in the afternoon than at 8pm, and I wasn't going anywhere with the snow, lol. Anyway,I am really liking these tunes, musically outstanding while not being too esoteric. It has warmth and accessibility. Seems like Thom and Jonny were in group mode rather than solo mode so it did kinda have a Radiohead vibe, but still different. Found myself needing to adjust to Thom's voice again,lol. Sound mix and stability/quality of the stream was outstanding, rare time I wished I had a bigger TV than 32". Will definitely be listening to The Smile's album when it's released.

2nd stream tracked the first setlist except they added a cover of it’s different for girls. Admittedly don’t know who it’s by.
I totally agree with your highlights. The uptempo rockers are all pretty fun. I’d add open the floodgates. First time that song ever clicked for me. I also really enjoyed the jammy outro to Free in the Knowledge.
The studio version of The Same (played during the credits) sounded pretty interesting, better than the live version. Excited for an album.
I need to get over the fact it’s not Radiohead, but I can’t help but think a lot of these songs would be even better with the full band treatment and I fret that this project might add a couple more years until the next LP. That being said, I’ll take what I can get. Plus, a full band treatment might mean that some of them probably never would have seen the light of the day as they’d be tinkered with ad nauseum. I imagine that operating under The Smile probably feels freeing and lifts some of the weight of expectation?

Haha that's why they had 2 earlier shows, they tried to hit every time zone well enough and the last one is for the Asia/Oceana market! I agree too that studio version of The Smoke does sound better. And thanks supre for the audio!
