Popeye's must have the Sonic effect where it sucks in the north and is great in the south. I can't recall the last time I had good Popeye's.
Popeyes was from here originally and had some corporate locations that were always good. The franchisee Popeye's were not consistent from one to the next, but everyone knew where the good ones were.
The way I remember it was when original owner and chicken king Al Copeland bought Church's too, he was forbidden from racing in his speedboat and a bunch of other shit by his creditors. He lost the franchise in the early 1990's (bankruptcy I think due to the oversaturation of chicken place ownership?) but they retained the recipes and spice sales in that agreement. His heirs sold the recipes to Popeye's Corporate in the mid 20-teens. They also had a restaurant called Super Popeyes which was pretty great. It was buffet style and also had a few other offerings that Popeye's didn't. Then there was still one remaining all-you-can-eat Popeye's Buffet in Lafayette until last year that was legendary with my AA friends. One I was travelling with back from Texas asked me to stop in there, and he proceeded to blast out that he was there to everyone he knew.
Everything I ever tried at Sonic was dogshit except some of their drinks and shakes which I don't seek out anyway and will only take a sip if someone else has it.
Twice I think. It was shitty and typical fast food.
guess you didn't have a sweet & spicy bacon burger
I don't remember what I had the first time, but I didn't get mustard yet it was all over everything (Lake Charles). The second it was just a generic tasting patty with whatever I put on it. I did (Round 9 or 10) mention that they do have better options than most fast food places since they create different burgers and have better toppings than the main ones. But it's still kind of shitty except nearly everyone in Texas does like it particularly for their 24 hours. One of them tried Steak and Shake at 2:30am when visiting us in Pensacola, and he agreed that it was better. But he still loves Whataburger.

Super Popeye's was the BEST! Honestly, I haven't had bad Popeye's ever. Like never, I didn't know it could be bad. When the chicken sandwich just dropped the stupid long line got longer and then they had the sandwich shortage, so I just waited to try it since I don't really eat fast food anyway.

Whataburger is a real asshole name for a place. Wouldn’t stop there without being curious cause it’s talked about online. Still probably wouldn’t stop because I don’t like fast food hamburgers from anywhere really.

I still say Taco Bell plays an important role in society, especially for when people are drunk or high. Popeye's goes away and it wouldn't change a thing.
