Well folks, it's time to start planning already! I'm not staying on site this year because I like to have the wonderful shade of trees when I camp. Believe me, it helps a lot. I don't need to have another heat stroke, pass out, and miss half of roo again. I'm staying at the KOA which is right there, very close walk. From what I understand, it's pretty cheap and it just like every other campground. Electric hook-ups and yes, SHOWERS in REAL bathrooms. Anyone thinking about doing this? If you are you need to call them and get on the list ASAP.

according to barb (the ever so nice booking lady) it's a 10 minute walk... which is so much better than our 40 minute walk of last year. she also said, in past roo's that they've let the KOA campers walk through VIP to get to centeroo. I like that idea

I stayed at KOA last year. It's an easy 10 minute walk; right through the VIP area. One of the most convenient things is there is no bag check or pat down search coming in this way. We brought a cooler to the DEAD on Saturday night.
The KOA is really laid back; but the pool; hot tub and shower make it a great way to fly.
For those who have done KOA in the past, I have a few questions. In the last week or two I have been debating whether or not to look in to KOA camping. At this point I wonder if there are even spots available. But if you have done KOA camping in the past for Bonnaroo, what were the pros and cons of it? Did you feel like you were missing out on anything by not being in the other "actual Bonnaroo" camps? Will you be doing it again this year?

Pro's: Great Access to the Stages Hot showers Shade Swimming Pool Clean Flush Toilets No security searches to access Centerroo
Con's Really quiet; mellow Less colorful Can't bring in 'guests"
My group has been in the regular camping area and at KOA. We were worried last year about missing out on all the fun in the main kamping area; and yes it is MUCH more mellow. We found the benefits to out weigh the cons by far; hitting the pool for a quick dip before heading out to see 10 more hours of music is very sweet!@ In the interest of fairness I am 44...at 24 I wouldn't have given a rats ass about the creature comforts available at KOA.

Our group is going the KOA route this year. We stayed in the main lots last year. And as much fun as that was, I, too, enjoy the convenience of toilets and showers.
Nice to hear that we won't be bogged down with the bag check.
On the Krewe of Roo boards, the admin stated that they may or may not allow people to go through the VIP entrance this year who aren't VIP ticket holders. They supposedly haven't made a decision yet.
Not trying to scare anybody, but this may not be an option this year....

If they don't let folks through the VIP area; 100's of people would have to walk down the interstate for almost a mile. I can't imagine that the powers that be would want to be liable for someone getting run over. VIP car access; Band Access and equipment vehicles ALL have to drive through KOA's private property to get to the site. Seems to me it is an easy deal for the KOA people to make allowing their campers access.
Of course I have been wrong before!
Last year I found out unfortunately that the gates to BOnnaroo are locked on Saturday. I lost my KOA wristband and had to climb over the fence and walk down said interstate to get back to KOA
I can't imagine that any court would hold them liable for someone walking on the interstate (which is illegal most places). They provide on-site camping with a ticket so it is a person's choice to camp elsewhere - just like staying at one of the hotels near the KOA. How one gets from their off-site lodging to the event would be their own responsibility.
Anyway, I hope things work out for you folks staying in the KOA!

Request for Information
A couple days back I made a reservation at the KOA but I haven’t sent the conformation back yet and I need to make a decision quickly on whether to confirm or not. Not allowing people to go through the VIP entrance this year would be a deciding factor not to, unless there is an alternate route of the same distance. Would it be possible to make a new trail around the VIP area to another entrance and still be a short distance? Has anybody got any more information, insight or ideas? Happytrails will you give more info on what you said about the gates to Bonnaroo are locked on Saturday. I would truly appreciate anyone’s help on this matter. Thanks

The gates from the Interstate into Bonnaroo were locked. I had to climb over the fence to get OUT. Passed several groups climbing in during my adventure.

If the people camping at the KOA aren’t allowed to go through the VIP entrance this year, does anyone know an alternate route of close to the same distance? Would it be possible to make a new trail around the VIP area to another entrance and still be a short distance? Any thoughts?

I was told there would be shuttle rides to and from the KOA to Roo anyhow...
Well in all fairness this info is 6 years old dude it fair to think things might have changed. That being said for the past several years KOA operates a limo service into the guest entrance to the What and Which there is no VIP access involved. Also it is near impossible to get a spot, you need to get on the waiting list 9-10 months in advance and is usually bought out by a group of vendors. So I am not sure what anyone at Krewe of Roo is worried about.
