So this is a massive camping rock fest on the border of VA and NC that has an absolutely ridiculous lineup, both in sense of sheer scope and dichotomy. There are 171 bands slated to play, and they've announced 96, and they range from everything from Anthrax to Tenacious D to Knocked Loose to 3 Doors Down, with an added late night club with iconic hip hop artists.. I don't even want to imagine what this crowd will look like, but there's a lot of decent acts so far..
If you excise the butt rock, and ignore the 1-2 punch of 3 Doors Down and A Day to Remember as #'s 7 and 8 on the lineup, there's a super legit metal fest here.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
Just want to put in my word of opinion on this one, because I attended last year (also a stellar lineup) - This festival does not care about the fans, and a "clusterfuck" is an understatement describing what went down last year. Between ADA getting screwed, VIP being lied to, no security, having to walk 5 miles to/from each day, bands not being treated well, etc. - Go with low expectations. Even after all the complaints last year, fans were continuously told the problem was their fault, either for not reading non-existent info pages or that they were "just lucky to have a festival at all", not to mention staff being antagonistic towards fans voicing their concerns and the county that saved the festival from even worse disaster (you'll notice they moved counties this year). Their social media looks overwhelmingly positive because they have staff removing/blocking any and all negative commentary.
I can give plenty of stories, my own and others to indicate how little the festival runner cares about anything but his own renown and back pocket, even talked a band last week that played last year, slated to play this year that admitted things don't look better this year so far from their view. Not telling you not to go, but go in with low, low expectations. Stages ran great, lineup was great, but otherwise was a shitshow.

I can relate to this because it sounds very similar to Epicenter 2019, which had an incredible lineup, and an absolute horrible experience for the fans, plus a cancellation of the best headliner.. I'm on the fence just because the lineup is only 60% released, and there's more than enough to get me to travel 300 miles for a weekend.. but quality of production and convenience is really the ultimate decider in terms of sealing the deal for fests with me.. I think I'm just gonna have to come to terms with the fact that Firefly is my only fest this year. At least there's a world class quasi rock fest within 25 miles of where I live.

Having not personally gone to Epicenter myself, talking to people that did this honestly sounded even worse lol. At least with Epicenter they worked their asses off to try to correct the issues for future festivals. This one hasn't done anything but blame everyone else and "their side was planned correctly" lol. As someone who's hotel package was never booked with the hotel, I have big doubts
Yeah I had a friend go to last year’s event and she did not have the best review. And she really did not like the crowd.
I’ve counted seven total bands I would want to see, and two of them I haven’t had the chance to see live in some 16 years! So I’m really hopin’ Hoobastank and Alien Ant Farm play the same day and I can justify the horrible ticket price and travel time from Raleigh. But if they’re both given shitty 30 minute sets then no.

I think they've already said Alien Ant Farm is for the Wednesday camping pre-party only, so that may make your decision easy lol
I'd be interested in seeing probably 40 of the acts they've announced so far, but this lineup is a strange amalgam of legit hardcore, punk, and metal, and then radio and butt rock staples from 20-30 years ago. Which the latter is guaranteed to make a giant portion of the crowd incredibly cringe-worthy.. I really do love the lineup, but I don't love this fest's reputation, and I'd likely be put off by a majority of the crowd at this thing. There's still 50 acts tba, so if the headliners and subs turn out to be killer I just might have to go.
On the brightside, if 75% of the crowd attends the fest to see the butt/radio rock acts, then that should leave the heavy acts relatively empty.

not 100% comparable, but I had almost zero problems with the crowd when I went to Welcome to Rockville last year. Don't let that turn you off if you like the lineup. I've been watching this rollout with great interest

Yes, it will. But missin’ some of my favorite bands that rarely play shows, especially on the East Coast, will still suck!
Just announced Gojira, which may be the best announcement so far. Conversely, Seether was the other announcement made today, which is regrettable. Also expecting a Meshuggah announcement sometime soon, since this fest starts a week before their Fall U.S. tour

I loaded in a Seether show a few years back, those guys are cool as hell. They've made a lot of less than great music, but Remedy and Fake It are pretty fun.
If they bring in Meshuggah and the headliners are at all passable, I'm gonna try to go to this thing
I'm sure a lot of bands I disdain are pretty cool people generally.. I just wish this festival was split into 2 separate sister festivals.. 171 bands in a single weekend is unwieldy, even though I know most of these bands typically play 20-45 minutes sets on any given tour. This fest is basically Furnace Festival mashed with a DWP lineup.

Holy fuck they might have gotten Iron Maiden for the #1. They're free Thursday-Saturday. Metallica is also possible, who else is a) bigger than Slipknot and b) available?

I'll believe it when I see it. Last year they had a "#1" over Rob Zombie/Shinedown that they left to be the last spot on the lineup covered - When it came to announce, the band had fallen out and they replaced it with some #8-10 bands. Rumor was they had never secured a headliner and was waiting on one to say yes or no that never came to fruition. They announce as they book, so I wouldn't be surprised if they held that spot to sell tickets with no intention of it actually being bigger than Slipknot.
They've also used MCR music extensively this year, and pointed at When We Were Young as a "massive" hint, yet that would put MCR driving 11 hours out of the way and playing 5 days in a row. They just market to sell.
Nelly, along with 3OH!3, is booked as part of the "club experience", which is a separate experience in the festival you have to buy extra tickets for.. Last year they had T-Pain, Ludacris, Lil' Jon and Rev Run.
And yes, it made just as little sense last year as it does this year

Yeah, last year's headliners were Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch and Shinedown. To go from that to Iron Maiden/Metallica, Slipknot, Disturbed would be the most significant year-to-year headliner upgrade for any festival ever, possibly. I'm thinking NIN (I know they're on the west coast that week, but you know, planes kinda resolve that) or MCR are more likely and the best case scenario.. Korn is probably even more likely than those bands though. It's a small pool of Rock headliners these days.
That being said, I don't think it's entirely impossible that Metallica or Iron Maiden could be the final headliner announced.

Korn is one of the bands. leaked by another band in the last announcement when they said they can’t wait to perform this festival with so and so and Korn was one of the bands tagged! I heard Limp Bizkit might be also added! I wouldn’t be surprised if Misfits or Danzig.

Yeah the only reason I’ve even heard of this festival was it was very publicly a disaster last year, surprised it’s even being held again this year
To be fair, it is under all new management and the venue this year is almost too massive, so it shouldn't be as much of a clusterfuck, especially if they learned anything from last year
Slipknot * Korn * Disturbed * Ghost * Limp Bizkit is not a very impressive top 5.. Slipknot and Ghost are both decent gets, though.
If Deftones is one of the top 6 TBA though, that would go a really long way. Throw in Meshuggah and this thing is gold.

They announced at 4am that their #1 headliner "backed out" last minute, and now the lineup page is missing a headliner entirely. Same thing as last year where Rob Zombie had someone above him until 2 days before they "dropped out". Sensing a pattern here.

Seems real faulty to have that happen 2 years in a row, like they are making ish up. Even the explanation/clue of who the act is “a reunion 20 years in the making.” No clue who that would be that would put them on the top of the bill. They claim to be under new mnagement but sure is similar to last yeaf.
Lineup is full of crazy- ICP, hed pe, fear factory (dropped off), alien ant farm, crazytown, mudvayne, cold, puddle of mudd, daughtry, kittie, shadows fall, hinder, buckcherry, saliva with 2 lead singers, union underground and saving abel reunions, smile empty soul, etc
Obviously this festival is trying to attract just about every type of rock and metal fan in existence, hence the nearly 200 act lineup.. There's a lot of cringe shit throughout the lineup, and there's only one decent headliner (Ghost is good, but not headliner-level), but there's also a ton of legit hardcore, metal, and punk. If they excised the butt rock and bad 90's bands and rappers, basically half the lineup, this lineup would look insanely good.
SLIPKNOT * GHOST * ICE CUBE * LAMB OF GOD * ALICE COOPER TENACIOUS D * STONE TEMPLE PILOTS * GOJIRA * UNDEROATH NEW FOUND GLORY * ANTHRAX * KILLSWITCH ENGAGE * ICE NINE KILLS DOWN * SEVENDUST * WAGE WAR * KNOCKED LOOSE * CANDLEBOX * THRICE IN FLAMES * GWAR * GOD FORBID * SPIRITBOX * FEVER 333 * HATEBREED SHADOWS FALL * BARONESS * THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA * FIT FOR A KING WHITECHAPEL * SUICIDE SILENCE * SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL * JOHN 5 CHELSEA GRIN * STICK TO YOUR GUNS * COUNTERPARTS * ERRA BLEEDING THROUGH * THE ACACIA STRAIN * MUNICIPAL WASTE COMEBACK KID * FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY * STRAY FROM THE PATH * UNEARTH DARKEST HOUR * NORMA JEAN * KUBLAI KHAN TX * CROWBAR UPON A BURNING BODY * HOLLOW FRONT * ORBIT CULTURE * VENDED BRAND OF SACRIFICE * DYING WISH * ZAO * HE IS LEGEND SEEYOUSPACECOWBOY * GET THE SHOT

Feel awful for those that spent money again this year, looks like it's same shit, different year. 3-4 hour waits to take the MANDATORY shuttles (they will turn away walkers even if they braved the 5 mile walk), VIP has a whopping total of 7 tables for the ~800 that purchased tickets, security is letting anything and everything through again. They teased a "mystery" band for Thursday that they said was playing as late as Wednesday evening, only for the crowd to have an empty stage for an hour or more. Vendors are already complaining about low support, and trash is an issue day 1. So happy I didn't go, but damn I hate that festival goers get duped like this.
