Finally something that makes sense in this world.
Look I love Kid Charlemagne as much as Ye, but CBAT & Aja are *the* bookends for Steely Dan. One is expansive and jazz influenced and the other is tight & pop-y.

that doesn’t mean it’s better
Royal Scam just flat out has better songs. Caves of Altamira is like a middle of the pack song from it yet still kicks Kings ass. Would take something like Don’t Take Me Alive, The Fez. Green Earrings or Haitian Divorce over any song on CBAT except Reelin and Dirty Work.

Royal Scam is the seasoned Dan fan’s choice for best album because it shows one’s archly superior taste. Aja is too obvious and is the actual best album, and CBAT only shows a a half dozen of the band’s best qualities instead of the cornucopia Royal Scam provides.
