Since Loomis has taken over the front office in 2002 (GM 2003), we've traded up 24 times and down 3 in those 16 drafts. Olave is also the 9th Ohio State player Loomis has selected since taking over those responsibilities. He correctly anticipated the run on WR's that would happen between 10 and 16 (we acquired #16 in the Eagles Trade) getting us to up to #11 for the WR we wanted anyway who would likely have been selected by the time we got to select at #16. Note the Vikings immediately trading Pick #12 to Detroit after our selection though it also could be because Stingley and Sauce Gardner were off the board there.

Yes, Mickey Loomis is such a genius that he's the *only one* who saw the run on WRs coming.
Wait, even the idiots at inforoo dot com saw it coming! C'mon man, you can just acknowledge the Saints did something you liked and they wanted without acting like it was the greatest thing in the world.

Way to mischaracterize a matter-of-fact post reply to us trading up again. The short translation would be he traded up again in this first round (already went from 18 to 16+19 and then 11+19) in order to get a WR that they coveted that was likely to have been gone.

"He correctly anticipated the run on WRs..." is what I was responding to. And just FYI, I bristled at the Eagles fan tweets I saw last night laughing at how much the Saints paid to get up to 11 as well.
But it's time to get down to brass tacks. My sportsbook (Draft Kings in PA, connected to The Meadows Casino in Washington, PA) currently lists the Saints o/u at 8 (up a half game from where you were when you issued the bet challenge). Let's talk stakes and terms, I'll take the bet because what the hell (despite all the crap I give you about it, I think the Saints could be fine this year and think 7.5/8 is a fair range for an o/u, one I absolutely wouldn't touch with a real bet).
I hear you, but it's still pretty matter of fact that he did it. It wasn't a consecutive run of every other team picking WR's from 11 to 16, but there was a pretty good chance we wouldn't have gotten him. We only gave up this year's compensatory 3rd and a 4th to move up those 5 spots along with #16.
Pick #16 = 1000; Pick #11 = 1250. The 3rd was worth about 100 and the 4th about 50. So I'm not really getting where they think we overpaid to get up to 11. Similar when we traded you guys #18 and future picks for 16/19. The numbers actually work slightly in our favor if you go by standard draft value charts.
Depends on what you want to do. I offered $50 for over 7.5 for up to 10 people. I'm not making that same bet at 8. But I'm certainly willing to bet you that in a one-off if you're game. Proceeds go to the winner or charity of the winner's choice. If you want to tweak that bet some kind of way, make an offer.

This is the tweet (and others like it) that was Eagles fans reaction to the Saints moving up. Again, I'm not in agreement with this so don't take it out on me! For one thing, the "third receiver" doesn't really speak to how teams evaluated guys. It would be completely valid to have Olave over London, they are completely different receivers. Pretty much I'm just out on fans who think their teams are smarter than everyone else on Draft Day.
On the bet, I'm content to wait for offseason stuff to settle before picking whatever the o/u is on a book and setting terms/stakes (stakes you proposed sound good though). I just know you had a deadline on the original bet and didn't want to miss it.
Yeah, that deadline was for anyone talking shit who might have been willing to back up their talk. You were the only one except the cheese offer. Let me know when you're ready and we'll see how things stand. I wouldn't want to hold you to the under if we fell down to 6.5 anymore than I would want to play the over at 9.5 or 10. So we can adjust as necessary at some point before the season starts.
I agree with you about team values for WR's being different. We've had a super successful offense for a decade, yet the last WR we took this high was like late 1970's with the selection of Wes Chandler who went on to star with Dan Fouts in San Diego. I think what they liked the most about Olave was the precision in his route-running. So we may have valued differently than someone who was looking at size or speed or whatever.
As for the tweet, I saw someone make that argument on a Saints board as well. But it is such an over-simplification that doesn't take into effect the value of those picks in relation to what actually happened. Supposedly the Eagles were the ones who approached us about the trade to begin with. We were at #18. We ended up with 11 and 19 while still hanging onto #49 (so far) and got 2 likely starters (probably sooner than later). So we traded places for a 3rd (after 32nd pick in that round) and a middle of the round 4th for a need position player we hopefully will at least hit a mini-jackpot with in the years to come.
I know I took a while for my pick. Sorry everyone.
Maybe youre joking but I don't think it's on you.
The Jets did crush it. They got what could end up being the best CB and WR in the class, and they got their guy Johnson at the end of the round.
It is a little easier to crush it when you have that draft capital, though. Seeing a lot of Cowboys fans complaining about what a great first round the Giants had, but it's like.. yeah! They sucked last year so they got the fifth pick. And they made a heist of a trade with the Bears last draft to end up with the seventh, so credit to them for that, but when you have two top-7/top-10 picks, you're probably gonna get two really good players. The trading back into the round is what really makes it feel like the Jets won the day to me.
