I don't game as much anymore and when I do it's a football management game and occasionally CoD or Battlefield.
That being said, I don't see myself playing Mario games anymore, they feel easy compared to playingthem as a kid. I don't dislike Final Fantasy and enjoyed the versions I played, GTA is always fun although not sure if it's evolving the right way and Zelda is always a winner.
I feel like Mario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy have games that could be in the running for best game of a particular console. I love GTA but I’ve never replayed a gta game like I have the other 3. And for clarification I would say FF7 for ps1, Ocorina for 64 or BotW for switch, and honestly any Mario for any Nintendo console.

Sorry Mario.
I fucking love Mario games. They are so fun. There are so many side things you can do, in any of the titles. Just a super fun game. PLUS, it has the only multiplayer game that I play and that is Mario Kart. Mario is top notches if only for that game alone.
all i’m saying is that super mario rpg, the first two paper mario games, and the first 3 mario & luigi games are on the upper echelons of video game experiences

We need to decide between Zelda and Mario to save GTA. Final Fantasy not an option rn
well I’m certainly not voting Zelda out. Mario just isn’t that interesting to me. They are well made and fun but I just don’t have any attachment to them at all.

Sorry Mario.
I get this to an extent.
When it comes to choosing between Mario and Zelda I choose Zelda every time. The story for every Zelda game is just so rich in themes and the music always strikes an emotional chord, plus the overall lore of the Zelda timeline is so interesting. Mario on the otherhand, is just silly fun, and as an adult I have no desire to revisit the games. I give Mario props for the innovation, particularly the jump from Super Mario World (snes) to Super Mario 64, but it's not like Zelda didn't do the same thing.
Mario really shines with its total franchise, particularly the party games. The drinking games associated with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. are a huge highlight for me in gaming experiences. It has greater reach to where even people who don't regularly game like to dabble in those.
GTA to me has no broad appeal. The games are objectively great, but I don't find anything interesting about the lore or overall stories and I never found them fun to bust out with a group of friends. It was always just like taking turns watching each other just go on killing sprees creating chaos and getting killed in unique ways. They were fun to rent from Blockbuster as a teen, but now as mid 30s teacher, I get concerned when my 4th grade language students quote the games and talk about playing them.
And can't speak on Final Fantasy, I just know like out of like 20 games or so like 5 of them are held in very high esteem, with VII being the playstation GOAT.

Zelda: Fun for all ages on multiple consoles. Lack of content outside gaming platforms (I would love a Zelda tv show!). Always enjoy cosplay of Zelda.
Mario: Fun for all ages with a decline of interest once older (personally). Many spinoffs that are unique, content outside of gaming platforms is okay. Movie coming out soon which could be interesting (I love Chris Pratt).
GTA: Fun for older kids and adults. Incredible evolution over the years, might have reached their high point nowadays. New game coming soon, no other content outside gaming platforms. Possible tv/movie franchise?
Final Fantasy: Fun for most ages, maybe slightly less for younger crowd. Many games, challenge is real and games are lenghty. I kinda like a movie they once made (not sure if there are others).

Except it's not even the best game Rockstar has made cause RDR2 exists.
Does not have anywhere near the cultural impact nor will it have it anywhere near the same lifespan. But I do like the red dead story a million times better than gtas

I agree with you on the impact and legacy of GTA being greater. I was judging purely on the quality of the story and game play where I give RDR the edge. Also RDR has the lasso which is one of my favorite weapon/tools in any video game.
