Paddys going before Earth Day, Labor Day, Mother and Fathers Day reminds me of why I used to think Inforoo people were going to be weirdos in real life before I met them.

Labor Day? It's a long weekend, the last of the summer, with grilling out, beers, college football, NFL right around the corner...
Plus, you know, you're a laborer, like I'd guess almost all of us on a drug and music festival message board. It's your day to shine and stick it to our corporate overloads.

Nothing says sticking it to the corporate overlords like clocking back in on Tuesday!

I hate college football so it could be that. Have never viewed it as a “hey Labor Day is next week, we need to do something” sort of deal. Is grilling with beers as essential to the holiday as it is for Memorial Day? Idk

If it's a holiday that could come and go without you ever noticing, it should go now. That definitely describes Earth Day, probably describes Mardi Gras unless you live in NOLA, and applies to any of the Monday holidays for people who aren't lucky enough to work M-F 9-5 jobs. I've had better times on Memorial and Labor, so I'm going Veterans plus those first two.
Juneteenth probably belongs in this discussion as well, but I'm not comfortable tackling that one.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

earth day is an s-tier holiday - you cannot convince me otherwise

Something feels wrong about voting for Juneteenth already, but also I have a legit reason to vote it out as it's the only holiday that requires MORE work from of me. I do all of the marketing for a charitable gala surrounding Juneteenth that my company hosts each year.

It’s actually kind of embarrassing giving all the significant issues that could be highlighted by it.
Instead it’s about personal responsibility and things that are secondary concerns if you’re actually discussing what’s at stake and how to address it.

So yeah, it sucks.
you're following the wrong outlets/nonprofits/etc. then. I've been in the enviro field for 5 years now and have never once had my org's messaging fixate on personal responsibility.
enviro nonprofits mostly use the day to emphasize the bigger picture problems and how to engage in advocacy, etc. sure, there might be a cute list here and there of like "ways to be more energy conscious in your household!" or whatever but that is not the bulk of it if you're on the right side of Earth Day promo & messaging

yeah, but I was talking on a natonal level where that messaging tends to be watered down significantly by major networks, imo.
And also thinking of what I learned in school during Earth Day. Granted That could be totally different now.

Ok, but if you're not in the enviro field, do you really think anyone knows when Earth Day is, cares about it as a holiday, engages with it in any significant way?
I like Veteran's Day because it's a day off in the middle of November, and that's nice!
As opposed to a day off on the fourth Thursday in November?
I always work that Wednesday before, and I used to fly out the next day, and it was SUCH A HASSLE. And then there's the hassle of pleasing the families. Now we do Friendsgiving but it's been a pain to get there (and parents are all still disappointed of course)

so what do you do on labor day? labor day, memorial day, and independence day were all sorta celebrated interchangeably for me - call your bros, grill food and drink beer all day out by the pool, play some yard games and stuff. start summer, celebrate summer, end summer.

oh thats certainly true re: major networks. i wasn't trying to say your impression was totally inaccurate since it is unfortunately the way of mass media outlets to water down almost everything from its original meaning/purpose lol; i just wanted to stand up for Earth Day a bit, is all

i certainly knew when it was and cared about it long before i got in the field professionally.
IMO the significance behind a holiday should count for something when ranking these. and Earth Day celebrates something more meaningful than a solid handful of these others on here...

Oh yeah, that’s a perfectly valid way to view it. It’s in the same vein of what some of us have said about Labor Day and Cinci de Mayo. I think the immediate existential threat we are living under makes Earth Day more frustrating.
But I certainly didn’t mean that there aren’t people out there giving it all they got to make a difference.

it celebrates something more important than Halloween but is wildly less cool. If you think about that enough it should become clear that a Holidays meaning isn’t a huge variable in how fire the holiday is. If some “healthcare for all” day cropped up tomorrow, it doesn’t just get to fly up past Christmas on my list of best holidays.

Where I live, the 4th isn’t remotely the same as the other two. It’s potentially the most fun holiday of all of them. Running into a meeting but I’ll be talking about that more later. Memorial is kinda close to labor in my life but I think it’s recently become a more essential and obvious grill day than Labor for reasons I’m not that sure of.

whoa whoa whoa i never suggested earth day has reign over halloween. i think halloween should make it to top 3-5 here.
i'm talking earth day vs like...st pattys day, for instance. it's like, some saint died that day in europe a way long time ago? ok?
