I have to imagine - and am looking forward to finding out if - there’s a dramatic difference in celebrating Mother’s/Father’s Day when one is a mother/father than if one is celebrating one’s own parent.

Mothers Day should be a thing.
Fathers Day was like 'oh I guess we need to recognize them too.' Nah. The patriarchy benefits us enough already. We don't need a holiday.

I’ll be celebrating Father’s Day this year with 80,000…errrrr…. make that 40,000 of my closest friends. I’m sure my dad and my kids will understand.

I read once that Dax Shepard and Kristin Bell have an agreement where on their "days" they get to get a day off of their families, or do whatever else they'd want to do (and NOT do what they probably have to do all the time). I've always thought that'd be a fun idea.
Personally my Mother's / Father's Day have always felt rough for various reasons, but in the advent of social media, it's *rough*. Never happier to not be on Facebook than during major holidays where people post shit like "My dad never left my side" or "My mom's my best friend". Not everyone has a Gilmore Girls relationship with their parent, Becky!
Not a parent don't intend to ever be but "I actually use Mother's/Father's Day as a self care me day" seems pretty psycho to me.
I would've much rather had my mom go out and do something she actually liked to do than complain about the crappy breakfast I tried to make her "in bed" and watching her pretend to like some stupid thing my teachers made us make in school. Maybe not dads, but most moms I know need a day where they can be human beings and not everyone's personal assistant. My mom's not a bad person by nature, but she was super resentful for having to be an overworked single parent for years.
