Green Day belongs exclusively in the teenage years, much like how men need to stop wearing boxers and women stop wearing tankinis after they leave for college

My 32 year old self will happily continue to wear a tankini

I wear boxer-briefs. I think it's in our work handbook that we have to wear undergarments - unless you are talking about undergarments as the actual garments?

Apologies if they've already been mentioned on here but why no R.E.M? They definitely were big in the 80s but feel like their 90s stuff was probably even more popular. Five albums and some pretty big hits in the decade.

Quote somebody (maybe CD) posting about people posting about bands that didn’t make the list.
They lasted but that’s an 80’s band that was a defining part of college rock’s emergence in 84 or so.

Out of Time was their biggest album. Released in 91.

But pretty much everyone alive knew them pretty well before that came out - was what their 7th or 8th album? They were generally featured on I.R.S. Cutting Edge/120 Minutes/other college rock outlets long before then. Then Document came out in 1987 with It's the End of the World and This One Goes Out to the One I Love which I think elevated them from just being a college rock band on those stations to stardom. Early on their label I.R.S. also featured the Fleshtones/Peter Zaremba who promoted for their label and had the aforementioned show on MTV which was one Sunday night a month from the early to the mid-late 80's and which also helped get them out there.

I know who R.E.M. are. I'm just saying that just because you establish your identity in one decade you aren't required to be "of" that decade. They far eclipsed their 80's success in the 90's. Out of Time, Automatic For The People, and Monster took them from college darlings to superstars. And that's with an attitude that seemed pretty averse to becoming superstars.
I don’t disagree or agree. Lots of bands cross decades. I saw The Who Saturday - 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 2020’s apparently still. But they weren’t in the poll either so it ends up being moot other than points of discussion.

We should come up with operational definitions prior to the start of these Survivors. What is a ‘90s band? One of my favorite ‘90s bands was up for a Best New Artist Grammy in 2004. I imagine that would disqualify a band from Best ‘90s band consideration.
