Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden should be next. i dont get the Blur hate
Wtf? Soundgarden > the other 19 acts by a decent margin.
that is a super hot take. theyre fine but in comparison to Bjork, Pavement, NIN, Rage, Nirvana, its no contest imo. I understand if you like them quite a lot but i just dont think their discography measures up to the aforementioned groups
I'd vote out Tool before Blur. At this point, we're voting out good bands. Tool's appeal is more niche and Britpop should still be represented. Also, Song 2 is a beautiful wall of sound.
I love Tool, but like others have said Lateralus is the album that made me love them and it's post 90s. Their rise is attributed as much to the 00s as the 90s I think.
Not counting Think Tank or Magic Whip, Blur is pretty much all 90s. Their sound had an incredible evolution through the decade, and s/t and 13 are both masterpieces. Not saying they should win it all (though I wouldnt mind it) but they should stay in another couple rounds.

I’d say Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are better albums than anything else in the contest except possibly Dirt, but Alice In Chains got voted off because this is Inforoo. There are some technical acts like Tool where it’s arguable that Anema or Lateralus could be up there as well. Bu
A few polls back, severs people who do know and listen to music were discussing the top 4 singers, guitarists, bass players and drummers on the acts which were in the poll. Cornell and Thayil made most of those top 4’s with Matt Cameron also on several. Nails is up there too but obviously you can’t go by one person doing everything studio which was the 1990’s. He’s a great singer and studio musician and can play almost anything. But he’s not specific virtuoso enough on a given instrument to compare. They are Top 4 from the original poll for sure. Pavement, Rage and even more than them, Nirvana aren’t nearly as good. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love them all. They are quirkier in that Rage can be incredibly formulaic with the stanza chorus stanza morello weird effects solo and back to chorus and less musical. And Nirvana doesn’t quite have the musicianship level (at the time) of any of the other great Seattle acts. It’s way more fuzzy and garage-y. Again that’s fine. I came up through the hardcore era and understood what grunge was. Elements of that were merging hardcore and DIY ethos with classic rock as a counter to what was biggest in rock at the time - hair/glam metal.
I jammed that on the way home from Florida last week. It’s been forever. Pretty Noose, Burden in my Hand, Blow Up the Outside World - yeah underrated. I got a hall pass for that tour in ‘94. One issue with rockers were that some people from the metal side took a while to get mosh pits. I got thrown into the corner front and this douche trying to protect his GF cocked back. I looked at him and shook my head. Get the fuck away from the front if you’re worried about your girlfriend. No one was trying to hurt anyone, and this was before that Hatebreed era moshing in place throwing hands with the air but not giving a shit if you hit anyone. I always thought that was some poseur ass trying to be hard shit.
I think I appreciate Nirvana more than I enjoy listening to them at this point.
I never listen to Nirvana. They were never my favorite. I can understand what they did but most of the other grunge bands were better than them.
I don't know when the last time I voluntarily listened to Smells Like Teen Spirit. I respect it but I feel like in the early 90's I already heard it enough for several lifetimes.

I will skip Nirvana songs when they’re on the radio. SP is the only other band on this list that I will do that. But I still think Blur and Pavement should go out before them.

I liked it a lot when it came out because of the punk element. But I thought Smells Like Nirvana was an instance of the parody being better than the original.
