Make it unannounced. Have a neutral like Druid just pop in and randomly announce it. Regular draft pauses until everyone has picked or some set time limit then continues.

Proposal 1: add the reserves (Fielder, Durkle, Ryan, Dan, Tristan) to the draft. They will be added to the end of the draft order in that order, and will be able to make up any missed picks they would have otherwise been able to make.
