FUN FACT: I used to work in a Hawaiian themed smoothie shop in Short Pump, VA. Kinda bummed that beat out Bumpass for best lewd name. It’s like Inforoo voted on it in a Survivor or something.
E: OH OBVIOUSLY, ITS SERIOUS MAPS. Double Edit: I JUST REMEMBERED I HAD TO GREET YOU WITH “ALOHA”.

I've been to Pee Pee township. I looked up why they called it that and it's because the town's founder was named like "Phillip Price" or something where his initials were P.P.
I just feel like there were better options than Pee Pee Township
When I used to work at Waffle House in Roanoke, one of the truckers there kept his invoice after a drive from Intercourse, PA to drop a load at Climax, SC.

Sadly, it took a bit before I got “drop a load”.
Climax is in VA. It’s where Tim from Moonshiners is from.

There's a city in Kentucky named Monkey's Eyebrow. I'm sure someone out there finds that erotic.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Oh, there’s one in North Carolina as well. It’s a pretty common name.

Waffle house on electric?
Franklin. It’s closed now, I think. I guess they opened a new one up the street on Electric and shut that one down. It was old and needed to be, honestly.
Enjoying checking out different metro areas on this map
Curious as to why there is a lone dark purple around Sioux Falls, SD. Didn't realize that would be such a hot new area to move to.
Also a similar question for Las Vegas. While fun, I would NEVER want to live there.
I lived in Las Vegas for almost four years. I have no interest in going on vacation there, but I wouldn’t be against living there again if it wasn’t so far from my family and the cost of real estate wasn’t through the roof. It was actually a very decent place to live.

Above, a topographical map of the USA, from the USGS National Elevation Dataset; below, a Centers for Disease Control map showing age-adjusted obesity prevalence by county.
so proud of my new thread for receiving a shit post and a depression post all in it's first day :,)
Just glad you posted first, bb. Otherwise I would have just looked like an asshat. Well, more of an asshat than normal.
I have a million wtf maps saved. None are serious business though. I’ll save some for when it slows down.
same. I follow a couple of mapping blogs and geo-minded twitter users plus geography is my day job! but usually its more data based and not so cartographic.
I will be at the ESRI UC next week and the map gallery there always has some cool submissions, I'll post any that catch my eye.

Yea but what's your geoguessr rank?
That's really cool, I spend way too much time reading about urban planning and geography and would like to go back to school at some point to get into that field

lollll haven't played for a while but god it's so fun.
Also I used this quiz to learn every country during covid.
I'm a big urbanist/transit nerd too and would love to work in that field somewhere but not sure it's in the cards. For now hobbyist level is good enough
by title I'm a senior research tech but a mainly do geo-spatial data engineering for an aquatic sciences research institute in Southern California. I help to design and plan field research methods and then do the data management, analysis and visualization but mainly a lot of ETL type work all with geographic data and GIS programming. Both my under grad and grad degrees are in geography so I've been a map nerd for a looong time.

I really find urban planning interesting too but just the planning part lol. I know people who work for various cities around here and the day to day work isn't terribly exciting. Rarely to you get to actually plan and design stuff, its mostly city maintenance tracking, zoning and permits etc.

True - and there's nothing more depressing american zoning lol

Yea it's rough out there, especially for people working on the government side. Getting involved in the activist side of stuff is great, it was satisfying to have a little involvement in mpls 2040 even though people are trying to roll it back under the guise of environmentalism. Blocked a 4 lane rode a while back and the county is starting a 4-3 trial conversion next week!
