We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Inforoo has declared they don’t like soda, sparkling water, or now liquor, but are down with a combo of those. Just admit it that liquor is the part you care about and vote off the mixers

Last time I was in Knoxville, we went to Myrtle’s Chicken & Beer in Market Square. I don’t usually do cocktails, but I had one there that had vodka, basil, cucumber, and some other things I can’t remember now. I don’t know the name of it and it’s not on their regular drink menu online (summer smash, maybe?). Anyway, it sounds kind of awful typing that out, but it was so good.
Which is to say, I don’t do mixed drinks very often, but I’ll take a mixed drink over straight liquor any day.
And also, if you have the chance, I do recommend Myrtle’s Chicken & Beer. It was very good.

we've got a ton of cucumbers, basil, and mint growing like crazy in our garden right now. wife has been making some smoothies using those and frozen strawberries, coconut water, and vodka (and/or tequila) and they are delicious.

I think there may have been mint in my drink, too, but I’m not sure about that.
It's correct that straight liquor made it this far. But for real, unless you are a teen/college kid trying to get fucked up as quickly as possible, a rich old dude with a top-shelf collection, or just an old-fashioned paper bag drunk, straight liquor is probably your last choice.

This is not true. I’m 42 years old, closer to poor than rich, who only drinks occasionally on weekends, not even every weekend and I’ll drink shots or sometimes just a glass of straight bourbon.

I'm 34 and have always just assumed that rational young adults eventually mature into the wisdom of "I really like the effectiveness of liquor but really hate that I want to throw up whenever I drink it straight. It's probably better to mix it with one of a few dozen options to make it taste better."

I don’t throw up from drinking. That happens very rarely.

Not everyone misses the line between a good time and nausea. Straight bourbon neat or over ice is a beautiful thing. Chilled shots of quality vodka maybe with a squeeze of lime can be delicious. Then there are things like martinis or manhattans which are generally one or two straight liquors which they could technically fall under straight or mixed categories.
I mean I certainly believe a taste for quality liquor could be acquired. When I was 16 I hated the taste of beer and now it is my drink of choice. I just don't know how to unlock that part of my palette other than just drink a lot of it. My dad collects expensive bourbons and always shares them with me, but they always just taste like slightly sweeter whiskey to me regardless.

This sounds like a you problem. I can’t have more than 2-3 beers because 1.I don’t like it that much 2.It makes me feel bloated. I can drink a lot more liquor and wine.

That's one of the reasons I like beer. It kind of naturally cuts me off before I have too much, and prevents me from drinking in excess.
