Based on who I'm interested in seeing, Saturday has 7 and Friday and Sunday have 5 each. Saturday could still use some bigger names but I think the announcements for that day have been pretty solid so far.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Am I the only one who thinks the Saturday lineup is super weak? Some really big names on Friday and Sunday.
Saturday is the weakest day for my tastes at Newport, for as far back as I can remember. 6 more acts to be announced though for Saturday so still some room for that to change. Friday and Sunday are both stacked for me though.

none of these days really seem stacked to me, but Saturday has Alice Phoebe Lou, Angel Olsen, Bartees Strange, Goose and Indigo De Souza which is by far the most acts I'd want to see on any of the days thus far

Yup, that's five of my seven. Willi Carlisle and Backseat Lovers are the two others. Willi's humorous lyrics remind me a bit of Prine. The Backseat Lovers were great last year and I would normally skip them being a repeat in favor of something new but they didn't play what I would consider to be their two best songs so I'd expect this year's set to be even better.

Maybe I was just riding the high of the early announcements. Upon revisiting, I’m going to have to revise my earlier statement. In terms of acts I’m excited to see:
Friday: Caamp, Noah Kahan, Maggie Rogers, the Beths. (Honorable mention to the Heavy Heavy)
Saturday: Bartees Strange, Indigo De Souza, Goose, and Backseat Lovers. (Honorable mention to Angel Olsen)
Sunday: Billy Strings, Orville Peck, Remi Wolf, and Gregory Allen Isakov. (Honorable mentions to Alexander Abraham and Jupiter and Okwess)
In hindsight, I guess there’s less than I thought across all three days. Although Friday and Sunday have “bigger” acts that I want to see. (Nickel Creek will push the needle forward for me, but Son Volt and John Oates don’t do much for me if they all end up on the lineup.) If I end up with 8 acts that I want to see per day I’ll be happy.

Bartees Strange is doing the Gull & Stars member meetup this year in the Museum.
They're also doing a vinyl swap:But we're also trying something new this year: the first ever Newport Folk Vinyl Swap. Bring a vinyl to the meeting and you'll be paired with a fellow member to exchange your records, discuss why you chose them, and geek out over music.*

This is neat but I wouldn't do it because I really don't want to carry around a vinyl record all day. Especially in the summer heat which may damage it if exposed enough
One year we did spin art on vinyl records at Bonnaroo and I loved how it came out as a souvenir. Then my girlfriend at the time left them in the car on the dashboard at night and by morning they were all warped and ugly.
Ive almost bought records at the fest to get signed but never want to carry it around all day. Don't usually have a big enough bag to hold it.
Damn - these announcements been sideways for a long time now.
Nothing really exciting for some time now.
Its been a strange announcement cycle this year, with some really strong additions out the gate and then a lot of relatively smaller acts since - but part of what I love about Newport is discovering new acts, so I’m okay with this. I trust in Jay and hopeful there’s more up their sleeve they haven’t showed yet. Fingers crossed 🤞
My guess is they’re filling out the earlier slots in the weekend right now and slowly going back with the heavy hitters as they end announcements in 3 weeks.

We say the same thing in this thread every year. We still have 19 slots to be filled. As long as what we have so far is more undercard than top billed, the festival is in good shape.

the bolded is exactly why NFF's lineups have gotten progressively weaker and more stale and yet why tickets are harder to get than ever

I just did a very unscientific analysis, but putting this year's artists into last year's schedule to see what sort of slots are left. Granted things don't really work like this, but you can see the general size of artists still to come...
Friday still to come: Fort Closer (The National) 2x Harbor closers (Felice Brothers, John Moreland) 2x Late Quad (Goose, Dino Jr) 2x early day slots
Saturday still to come: Fort Closer (Paul Simon) Quad Closer (Psychic Hotline) 3rd-to-last Fort (Clairo) Mid Harbor (Neal Francis) Mid Quad (Backseat Lovers) 2x early day slots
Sunday still to come: Fort Closer (Joni Mitchell) 2x Quad Closers/mid day Fort (depending on where you think Los Lobos goes) (Maren Morris & Japanese Breakfast) 2x Mid day Quad (Blake Mills + Taylor Goldsmith) 2x early day slots
So there's still a ton to come and not many early day slots left. There is something generally equivalent (to last year's popularity) to the following to come:
Joni Mitchell Paul Simon The National Maren Morris Japanese Breakfast Clairo Goose Dinosaur Jr Backseat Lovers Taylor Goldsmith Blake Mills John Moreland Psychic Hotline Neal Francis Felice Brothers 6x early day slots

Thats an interesting take.
My comment was meant to be optimistic - as someone who has gone to the festival off and on since 2014, I’ve always enjoyed myself. I hope everyone else here does as well, as I’ve personally found a lot to look forward to.
Any guesses for the rest of the lineup? I think there's a good chance for the following:
Jason Isbell, MMJ, Nickel Creek, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Josh Ritter, Alvvays, Soccer Mommy, Aoife O’Donovan, S.G. Goodman, beabadoobee
Does anybody think this is the year they get Bon Iver?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Nickel Creek just ends up as a Jane Pickens booking for Friday. Since they’ve done that before.
Bon Iver and MCC are both playing Beach Road. I remember Jay chirping that fest when it was announced a few years ago. So they’re probably out.
Forgot about Beach Road, yeah that probably rules them out. Alvvays is on that lineup too, so if the radius clause extends to undercards, they may be out too.

I’m think MMJ, Soccer Mommy, and an appearance by Jason Isbell are all safe bets.
I genuinely think Lana Del Rey is in play. She has a lot of collaborators who are Newport alum and recently had a huge spread with Joan Baez, who she should could bring back to the Fort. Also could see Bob Weir being the Sunday headliner.

Love those last two. You have to think that Jay is going to try to at least match if not top Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell. Doing that with some sort of Grateful Dead tribute, and a Lana Del Rey/Joan Baez appearance would be fantastic. And both of those would probably be unannounced. I don’t know if today’s announcement has any impact on the likelihood of Josh Ritter. Apparently Dawn Landes is his ex wife.
My predictions have been far off this year other than expecting Goose and Backseat Lovers to return, having hope for Noah Kahan, and guessing The Heavy Heavy as well.
That said, I think there’s good enough evidence to expect John Oates, Nickel Creek, and Son Volt. Unless John Oates ends up as a guest during a headline tribute set or Nickel Creek gets relegated to an after show.
I’m kind of hoping for Suki Waterhouse, Beabadoobee, Alex G, and Soccer Mommy.
What I’m really missing are acts to get you off your feet and dancing. Even the soul act this year seems to be subdued. A bunch of the recently announced acts might be interesting, and talented, but would be hard pressed to get me out of my seat. I’m not really sure who that could be. I still hope they get the Front Bottoms, but I’m not sure it’s even on Jay’s radar. It’s going to be hard for Jay to replicate the fun I had between Sylvan Esso and the Roots.
I’m almost always wrong on my big/long shot guesses/hopefuls, but I’d still love to see Newport get a Daisy Jones and the Six tie in, even if it’s a Blake Mills and Friends set. (We never did get the Inside Llewyn Davis collab I had wanted though.)
I’ll share in wanting Lana Del Ray, but I just don’t see it happening.
One of my early predictions was for Sleater-Kinney in the Dinosaur Jr. spot, and I’m not ready to rule them out yet completely.
