Going with Weezer. If you gimme a playlist with Buddy Holly on it, know you’re being silently judged.
This isn't about the songs, it is about the videos. That video was mind blowing when it first came out. Fucking Happy Days, feeling of summer, realizing you are an adult and those days are behind you. Fuck this is making me feel old.
I think I’m legitimately mad about Sinead going out first lol.
Inforoo is not comfortable with displays of genuine human emotion. Total cringe, amirite?
When I say I’m legitimately mad, I do mostly mean I’m tired and going “grr” under my breath as I get ready this morning.
(Though I may be also a little mad that two of the most enduring pop cultural images of the 90s are going to get voted out first in favor of Soundgarden’s whack ass CGI shot at goofy Dutch angles just because people listened to a lot of alt rock 20 years ago.)

well, they aren't comfortable with hypersexualized school kids either. weird middle ground.
This is one part I sort of agree on (and the debate about if the tied up shirt being Britney’s idea makes that better or worse would be almighty and maybe pointless) but I don’t think most people are thinking that.

Shuck, for some reason I thought you were Tranter this whole time since you changed your name. This was the pivotal moment.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

If I had gone on a rant about Janelle Monáe’s “Cold War” video like I thought about originally, it would’ve just been even further confirmation.
Idk if I’m willing to go that far. However, if this was the 00s Music Video Survivor and people were voting in droves to get rid of “Toxic”, that would absolutely be homophobic.
actually feel like going on a hot take rampage today so here goes: the “Buddy Holly” video does the 50s/60s pastiche thing way better than the “In Bloom” video does. Also the video for “Don’t Speak” is like 75% uninteresting performance footage.

actually "don't speak" really isn't that remarkable of a video. but i have such a strong memory of gwen holding that orange and trying to smile but instead being sad. great image. but i guess this isn't 90s image from a music video survivor.

It is def a memorable 90s video. And I LOVE the song. One of my favorite 90s songs for sure. But not one of my favorite videos in this bunch.
I always wondered if it was hard to play all of the time, or make the video given the history behind it. Pretty remarkable to have an almost 8 year relationship end, write a heartbreaking song about it, and continue to play it with and tour with the guy you wrote it about.

tbf baby one more time rests pretty heavily on the strength of its central image too. the video for black hole sun, meanwhile, relies on being total dogshit.
also, after thinking about this for a while, I’m going to say “Around the World” is my favorite video of this group but I think “Sabotage” is going to win.

I was hoping Sabotage would win. But honestly I think Jamiroquoi's Virtual Insanity was a groundbreaking mind-blowing video when it first came out. Didn't it revolutionize the way we did videos or some shit?
