We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

For some reason, when I think about the ‘90s, the ‘90s seem to end around 1996. I tend to associate Britney Spears, etc., with the turn of the century. While I like the song, I also have to agree with what others have said about the creepiness of hyper-sexualizing a 16-year-old.

not disagreeing with you, though as a 16 year old myself when the video came out, attending a catholic high school no less, i had zero issue with it and in fact appreciated it's artistic values and musical values and the art of it and music was good, it was good.
but what about losing my religion here? kind of boring, right?
i think musically it's a pretty remarkable single. uses the mandolin as the primary instrument, no chorus or hook to speak of. kind of crazy how big of a song it was.
and the video is quite compelling. i didn't really care about REM as a kid but i watched the video all the way through every time it came on.

it is a great single. def a video i remember. just voting for it at this point because i think the other videos entertain me a little more. i should clarify i didn't mean "here" as in "in the competition". rather "here" as in "at this point of the competition".

Did it come out in 98? I was 18 and I call bs on your thoughts. You thought she was hot but maybe annoying.

Just because that is your opinion does not make it other's opinions also.
