Yeah I'd say they are 100% out. No headliner is playing 90min down the road a week before the fest.
I’m about 90% sure you’re correct, but RHCP had a Texas date in the weeks leading into ACL last year and they were basically an afterthought until they were confirmed. I don’t know if it’ll happen again this year, t GNR is the type of big name that ACL would book again that quickly and that the current festival demographic wouldn’t be against. The current ACL attendee doesn’t give a shit unless they can get a cool picture next to the flag area and it seems like C3 gives less of a shit booking this year by year.

I feel like there's an incredibly high chance the #1 is the Foo Fighters. They haven't played since 2015, C3 loves them, and in the US for Sea Hear Now just two weeks earlier

I’m probably in the minority here but I’d love the Foo Fighters to be booked …the 3 times I was supposed to see them at festivals they were all cancelled/didn’t play for various reasons.

what?
This festival would book an act like GNR again because they’re lazy and the average ACL attendee wouldn’t give a shit because they’re not even there for the music.

Also Roo and ACL have had a decent amount of overlap lately so I could see it.

You're not wrong but you're also not right. I think ACL could do a lot worst with their bookings for the crowd that attends but you just basically described 80% of people who live in Austin nowadays.
That's why my biggest rule I live by in this city if it has a line it's not worth it. Has yet to let me down.

I suppose living in the city, that works. I live in San Antonio, so I find myself going up there to Austin less and less as years go by. Never thought I’d turn into “I miss the old Austin” type of guy.

Come East or South when you visit. Long Play East or Far out Lounge. You'll find it.
The Lumineers are gonna headline this aren't they?
I'm convinced ACL is making an effort to NOT book acts playing a bunch of other fests... the past couple editions saw very very few HLers who played more than a small handful of fests that cycle. That's why I'm very bearish on the odds for the likes of Lumineers/Foos/Kendrick/Odesza this round.
Digging into this some more, here's a breakdown of ACL headliners these past few years and the # of US/Canada mid-to-large festivals they also played that year.
Basically, if you remove the EDM outliers of Flume '22 & Odesza '18, the average ACL HLer since 2018 only played ~2 fests of relevance the same year, with each year getting less & less. Sure they can buck this pattern at any time, but its an undeniable trend at the very least!
-- 2022 (1.20 avg) RHCP - 1* (Louder Than Life, Jazz Fest* only as an emergency fill-in for Foos tho so I'm not counting) P!nk - 2 (BottleRock, Ohana) The Chicks - 1 (Bonnaroo) SZA - 2 (OSL, Day N Vegas) Kacey - 0 Flume - too many to count lol
2021 (2.33 avg) George - 0 Billie - 3 (LIB, Firefly, Gov Ball) Stevie - 3 (All canceled but originally gonna do Jazz Fest, BottleRock & Ohana) Miley - 3 (Lolla, BottleRock, Music Midtown) Rufus - 3 (OSL, Gov Ball, III Points) DaBaby - 2 (LOL...Lolla, Gov Ball)
2019 (2.71 avg) GnR - 3 (Voodoo, Louder Than Life, Exit 111) Mumford - 2 (BottleRock, KAABOO) Gambino - 5 (Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lolla, OSL, Oshega) The Cure - 0 Cardi B - 4 (Bonnaroo, Hangout, Music Midtown, Made In America) Tame Impala - 4 (Coachella, Lolla, Boston Calling, Shaky Knees) Robyn - 1 (Pitchfork)
2018 (1.6 avg) Paul - 0 Metallica - 0 Gambino - 0 (pre-cancelation of dates due to injury) Arctic Monkeys - 3 (Lolla, Firefly, Voodoo) Travis Scott - 5 (Lolla, Gov Ball, Voodoo, LIB, Okeechobee) Odesza- too many to count

where did you get some of these averages from? bc they are not matching in my head lol
OLS lineup is interesting to me. Looking back, we've always had exactly one headliner crossover for the past ~5 years, usually their #3 or #4 is a 5-6 for us. So I'm narrowing in on the Odesza/Lana/1975 trio as potential crossover...I'm steadfast in my belief that Odesza will not play, and 1975 feels a little too fringe to close Honda IMO (I'm sure yall will disagree tho).
So yeah, I'm buying Lana's odds big time right now. She seems like a slamdunk with what ACL has been doing recently. Taking Kacey's spot in 2023, maybe?
I'm in on YYY being here. Just noticed they have a 10/3 Mexico City show. Booking would make sense with what ACL has done with the top-tier subs of late. Let's go!
