Posted this in the Chicago thread but it’s relevant here too: heard last night that Heatwave is moving to Riis Park this year which gives more credibility that this is going to move out there too.
does it?
Isn’t the problem that there are three festivals in Douglas Park now, so they can’t use the park for a large percentage of the summer?
If they all move to the same other park, doesn’t that just move the same problem elsewhere?
True, there's always SeatGeek stadium, honestly North Coast has a pretty decent setup there and I think it would work pretty well for Riot Fest and/or Summer smash. I wonder why Scared Rose didn't do well. I thought it sold out?

Sacred Rose was way undersold. They papered the locals with tons of free tickets through Do312.

Oof, that's a shame that was a great lineup they had too. I wonder if it being a city fest messed them up. I thought it was better than summer camp lineup wise. Tbf, if it was camping I would have gone

It was a great lineup, but that venue is a tough draw. It's a pain to get to from the city, I can't think of anything that has truly sold out that stadium.
NBC 5 had a story on about the Bears and Solider Field and it mentioned Riotfest potentially moving there
Easier to get to than the other options, but it would be weird in a stadium tbh. Also, isn't it technically part of Grant Park meaning Lolla has claim?

I don't believe that it's considered part of Grant Park

Stadium is separate. And its not gonna all be IN the stadium. Theres parking lots. Or even worst case they used Northerly Island. The main stage can be the amp and then stages around the park grounds.
Honestly, I don’t think that’ll happen since the park district has final approval and there’s nothing to indicate they really care if it stays in Douglass Park or not lol. that being said, while I‘be been clear that I think a lot of the concerns regarding Riot Fest are overblown, it is absolutely fucking idiotic they are trying to push through with this lmao
Tegan and Sara just announced a new tour with a to be announced Chicago date. they’re also playing central Canada at the end of July so it could be Lollapalooza but the 9/12 Minneapolis date kind of makes me think it’s this:
That just sounds like code for “we can’t officially say anything but it’s definitely a festival date wink wink”. Pretty much all the venues in the city are wide open that weekend right now so if it was a club show they’d definitely just announce it.
I wouldn't mind if Riot Fest moved, but it's hard to call this credible or unbiased reporting when there is not a single quote from locals in the community who support the festival. Block Club is trash.
I suspect they will eventually end up moving. Soldier Field seems like a logical fit, especially after the Bears move.
I wonder if the interim could it work at Northerly Island? Though I'm not sure if Live Nation still has an exclusive contract with the city to hold events there.

It would likely require them to scale down a bit. I think the current format can hold up to 50k per day? I don't think you can have that many people at Northerly Island, even with the lawn opened up.
