Låpsley - Cautionary Tales of Youth Favorite tracks: Levitate (might be my most-listened-to song of the year so far); Dial Two Seven
Some thoughts:
I think I need to listen to more King Tuff because this album was way more mellow than I expected. It's a road I've been meaning to go down since I saw him play with Ty Segall way back on that Emotional Mugger tour.
Unpopular opinion: I didn't find that Lil Yachty album engaging at all. Honestly played out as pretty uninspiring, but that seems to just be me.
I'm truly excited to keep diving in to new things this year. Last year was the least music I'd listened to since 2012, which was soul-crushing and indicative of the headspace I was in all year. Good to be back on this train, as slow moving as it may be.
this is defitniely his most mellow album. his first few are definitely the lo-fi, garage rock. his last one, the other, is a lot more polished and gets into more neo-psychelia than the fuzzed out riffs of the earlier stuff. Smalltown Stardust is definitely a shift in direction and tone. it was all right, but probably near the bottom for me.
Do you (or anyone else, for that matter) have any recommendations on which ones to throw on first, of his earlier stuff? Any favorites, or tracks you're keen on?

black moon spell. i think his best garage stuff. more polished than the first two albums though.
probably the best song he's done, from his best album. big step up in production, instrumentation, concept. not just fuzzy riffs and a power trio.
another from the other:
if you're going album listens, I'd start with the debut (was dead). if you like the stripped down, ragged garage sound keep going in order. if you need some more polish but still want the fuzz, jump ahead to black moon spell. if you aren't feeling it, go to The Other. it's definitely different direction.
but really, he's only got 5 albums and you could make it through the first four under 2 hours.

Fucken a, this is much appreciated! Thanks for taking time for the insight. I think for the sake of knowing a theme and following his development in sound, I'll start from the beginning and carry on from there; after I check all these tracks out.

Agreed but there were a few albums that dropped last week that were worth your time, too.
Really digging the new albums from Young Fathers, Kelela, Liv.e and Yo La Tengo.
This week adds Screaming Females and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs. That Pigs x 7 album is the first metal I’m stoked for this year.
I’m pretty behind on albums overall, my short attention span is suited so much for singles lol. Really liked the Young Fathers album though, and the Murder Capital, Raye, & Yachty ones from last month. Kelela is next on my list.
I liked the Screaming Females single Brass Bell a lot, so I’ll check that out too.
