Who does everyone have today? I’ve got Vettori, O’Neill, Nelson, Gaethje, and Edwards. Most excited for the Vettori-Dolidze fight. If Roman can pull it off, I think he’s got a pretty clear path to the title. Vettori is impossible to put away, and if Roman manages to knock him out or submit him I think his next fight will be Holloway

hmmm it looks like MMA's downfall in the Survivor was fairly predictable given the success of this thread.
Cookin' Mama and I are making a huge day out of UFC 300 next weekend and I can't wait. Think we are going to have ten dudes over just sausage festing it the fuck up. Grilling by the pool leading into it then 6-7 hours of pure carnage, drinking games, real bets and prop bets.
Maᴙket Down iirc you did pretty good on your predictions of this Edwards card. You watching next weekend?
Part of my lack of enthusiasm with current UFC is the abundance of events and content.
I hesitate to call the cards "watered down" because it's the reality of having so many events. And the fact that you can get 90% of the fights with an ESPN+ subscription is incredible. But it has made it clear that some events are skippable and once you get into that habit a lot of it can seem disposable.
But 300 truly is a stacked card with the prelims and even the early prelims having better fights than a lot of the Apex shows:
- I like the prelim LHW main event better than the actual championship LHW main event - Bo Nickal is must see - Any Gaethje fight is must see - Two former champs opening the early prelims is wild - Interested to see if Harrison is able to make weight

I completely agree regarding all of the Fight Night Cards. I assume that is part of the ESPN+ deal. Wonder if it will change. With that said, they at least did an amazing job here to start the year with the Volk card, the O'malley card, and now this one. 301 looks horrendous though.
Here's my Tier List for how excited I am for each fight:
S: Pereira v Hill; Gaethje v Holloway; Jiri v Rakic; Charles v Arman A: Figgy v Garbrandt; Aljo v Kattar B: Zhang fight; Diego Lopes v Yussuf; Moicano v Turner C: Bo Nikal v grocery store clerk; Holm v Harrison D: Miller v Green; Andrage vs Rodriguez
I love that they chose to open the prelims with a good fight. I think that was ultimately what made me realize I wanted to treat this card as an event like the Super Bowl and invite a bunch of people over. Its like even if you don't care about who wins the super bowl, you are there once a year to celebrate the sport and make a thing of it. But yeah that fight is clearly bigger and better than at least 4 of the others. But they should every now and then make the first fight of the night a cool position to have to set the tone.
Didn't even notice when this thread was created back then but it would be cool to have an active MMA one. I've been posting MMA takes periodically in the "Random Sports 8 The Ocho" thread. I watch every UFC PPV and actually went to Miami last month to see 299 in person. Great time and I ended up winning over $3000 on fanduel on a bunch of parlays, so that was awesome.
Regarding the mentioned Fight Night cards, I agree about being too many of them. I'd rather have more solid cards and not a bunch of weak ones between PPVs. This year's PPVs have at least been really stacked so far tho. I know 300 got some shit for it's main/co-main event not being as great as expected but overall this is probably the most stacked card ever. The early prelims fights could be on most PPV main cards. The placement of some of the fights is questionable, like Nickal's fight being on the main card over serval better fights. He's legit for sure and I know they're trying to hype him up, but that's a pretty easy fight, and I think they're spoon-feeding the guy a little too much. After this, he at least needs someone in the top 15. Other than that fight tho, there's a lot that could go either way. Still have a week to make official picks but this is how I'm leaning right now...
Winners: Hill - I think Pereira being the favorite is a little bit of recency bias. Hill has only lost once and that was to a grappler. I think Hill wins the standup battle and gets the KO.
Weili - Great matchup but going with Weili.
Holloway - Taking Max as the underdog here. I see a lot of people counting him out cause he's moving up to 155 but the guy has an unreal gas tank and chin. I think he wears down Justin.
Tsarukyan - Coin flip imo. Been going back and forth and still may change my pick. You can never count Olivera out, I just have a feeling Tsarukyan gets it done.
Nickal - Easy W for Nickal. Wish the competition was a little more for this fight. He's ready.
Rakic - Another one that could go either way. I'm rooting for Jiri but he hasn't looked great his last couple of fights. Sloppy defense and I see Rakic just taking him down and winning rounds.
Sterling - The move up to 145 is interesting for Sterling. If he's smart, he'll rely heavily on his grappling.
Harrison - Most interested to see if she can make 135 lol.
Yusuff - Most "eh" fight on the card. Still solid tho.
Turner - Turner via KO
Rodriguez - Good matchup but I like Rodriguez and think she has a lot of potential.
Miller - How cool is it that Miller fought at 100, 200, and now 300? Hope he pulls it out and think he can if he utilizes everything and not allow Green to just make it a boxing match, which he'd win.
Figueiredo - Not sure we'll ever see the old Cody and the falloff from him has been crazy. Went from champ to a mid 135er. Also think Fig should go back down to 125 after this.

surprised you dont like the diego lopes fight. Feel like hes the 2nd most hyped prospect behind nickal right now but they actually gave him a real opponent like they should have with Bo. Should be a banger.

Don't get me wrong, I like it and it should be a good one. But if I were ranking where it stands on this card it would probably be near the bottom. But that's only cause it's an unreal card. Not sure I agree on how hyped Lopes is as a prosect right now. I think that loss to Evloev pumped the breaks a little on his hype train, although there's no shame in losing to Evloev. As far as prospects go, I'd still say after Nickal you got Khamzat (maybe not considered a prospect anymore?), Rakhmonov, Ian Machado Garry, Jack Della Maddalena, and Umar Nurmagomedov to name a few.

yeah see everywhere I look people consider the evloev loss to essentially be his crowning achievement since he took it on short notice and gave him his toughest fight yet. Its aged pretty well and hes won 2 since then.
Of the other guys you listed, I dont really view any of them as prospects at this point other than maybe umar. All the others are one fight away from a title shot at this point.
Idk im excited to see if diego is the real deal. If it were up to me, I would have placed it right after Figgy and Garbrant though because the name recognition is very low.

Fair point on the Evloev loss. Yeah, the placement on some of these fights is a little odd, but I guess when literally every fight on the card is intriguing, it doesn't really matter too much. There's been good prelims before but there's never been a card like this where even the early prelims are must watch fights. Can't recall ever watching all 13 fights but definitely plan to next weekend.

we should come up with a drinking prop bet thing for each fight before next sat.

Sticking with most of my original picks for tonight. Throwing a $20 parlay on all 13 fights that would pay out $5500 lol... lfg! Also betting big on Hill, Weili, Holloway, Sterling, and Turner. Should be a great card.
Going with: Hill Weili Holloway Tsarukyan Nickal Rakic Sterling Harrison Lopes Turner Rodriguez Miller Figueiredo

Cocaine and hookers gonna have to wait. I actually broke about even unfortunately. Won a little but not much. Had a 8 fight parlay that woulda paid out a little over $2k and lost it on the last fight when Hill lost. C'est la vie.

what an insane fucking day. Had 10 ppl over for all 7 hours.
The Holloway finish is the sickest shit Ive ever seen. Hard to rank all the moments / fights.
1. Holloway KO 2. Pereira telling the ref to let him cook then KOing Hill 3. Jiri 4. Green / Miller 5. Diego Lopes absolutely planting his flag as a 145 contender.
Still can’t believe Max did this when he was so clearly up 4-1 or 5-0. No reason or need at all. Well I guess it did secure him $600k.
Moicano was hilarious too especially after Turners dumbass let him up. Man there were so many moments.
The outcome to this Max fight was crazier but I still think Max sticking his head out to let Kattar take some free shots was more insane then getting into an unneeded shootout with Gaethje.

I could potentially agree in a vacuum especially since max has done this exact thing before. But I think the aura of the night. It being 300. Gaethje being considered one of the scariest guys to trade with. Live audience compared to no audience. And the fact he actually got the KO with 1 second left… idk. Its sick that people were expecting something crazy and it delivered. But i can see your point. What a guy.

Yeah it's tough to explain but I think we are mostly saying the same thing.
It's odd that sometimes you get Max fights that are technically good but leave you wanting more, but peak Max craziness really is the pinnacle.

Yeah, Max's ko will go down as an all-time UFC moment. Crazy stuff.
Fights to make after last night: Pereira vs Ankalaev. Would also to see the Jiri rematch especially since the first fight was a quick stoppage. But Ankalaev definitely deserves a shot.

Topiria vs. Holloway
Sterling vs Evloev, Allen, or Ortega.
Harrison vs winner ot Pena/Pennington
Lopes vs anyone in the top 15/10
Figueiredo vs Yan
Fantasy land here... I'm leaving the door open for Pereira vs Aspinall at 301. If he slept Aspinall then called out Jon Jones... omg it would be so tight. Of course, it'd be very likely that he'd lose to Aspinall. Actually, If Alex beat Aspinall and claimed the third belt, then beat the GOAT, then I think all he'd have left to do is settle the 1-1 mma record with Izzy. That would make him the greatest ever.
I wonder if Max should wait to see if Connor beats Chandler? Then they could fight for the BMF. Jiri vs Hill could be fun too.

Yeah I don't think they want to run Pereira up to HW and risk losing the shine they have with him right now. And Dana pretty much said that in the post fight press conference. Plenty of work to do at 205 still. Although it would be great to beef up 301 which looks like a really shit card. But 3 weeks is a very quick turn.
I think Max wants Topuria and that fight makes way too much sense to not make at this point. Maybe Conor down the road but he's so unpredictable and who knows when/if he'll fight again after the Chandler one.
had no idea this thread existed. 300 delivered and that was the 2nd most money i ever won betting on UFC so that added to it for me. lost my shit when Max got the KO - that brought me home $325! Jiri was my performance of the night though, he looked toast in the first round and that bounce back at the end of the first into the 2nd was amazing. Was bummed Jim Miller didnt win but that was one of the most gutsy performances ive seen since i started watching a few years back.
Would love to see Max vs Topuria next but I think Topuria finishes him granted i wouldn't mind being wrong.
I attended fight night in AC which was cool too. Almost didnt go bcuz the main reason was to see Sean Brady who is from my hood and theres a lot of ties i have to him without actually knowing him. glad i went thought tuned out to be a lot of fun

Yeah I was actually pleasantly surprised by how great Rakic looked in that first round. Will actually be interested in seeing his fights moving forward, but Jiri… idk how you can take those punches like nothing happened.
I went to the fight night when Topuria beat the shit out of Emmet in Jax last year. They are fun live events. I got into UFC around the time of the Leon head kick in 22 and now its like my 3rd thing after nfl and nba.
i got into when they resumed during covid. as a bettor i like the structure and fast results. ive grown to appreciate it more that just being able to make money off it though over the last few years, just depends on the card. debating trying to go to 303(?) in Newark but i know the cost is gonna be insane compared to what i paid for AC. plus id rather not spend a night in newark.
at one point he said hed be down to fight in mma. Someone should oblige him. Would love to see a truly elite boxer step in. No reason to think they wouldnt be solid
Big fight tomorrow. Porier is probably my favorite active fighter so really hoping he pulls it out. Would be such a cool way to end his career. Islam should definitely be the favorite but the odds are a little ridiculous imo. -600ish for Islam. +400 of Dustin is a good bet just for the return. I might be going with my heart over my brain on this one, but really think he has a shot if the fight stays standing. But that's a big IF. Islam will probably just take him down all fight.
Picks: Porier (for the odds alone, plus picking with my heart here) Costa Holland Almeida Brown

i got Islam but sub -115ish but will prob sprinkle DP finish +600ish no feel for Costo/SS but i think itll go 5. thats mianly what they both do I expect Sean to be careful I think Holland might be KOd but no feel for that one. someone is getting stopped.

not much real interest in anything else
Yeah Strickland-Costa could go either way but I think Costa lands to bigger shots that'll get him the W. 5 Rd fight tho favors Sean so idk. I think Holland gets the KO... also, he has a pretty decent chin so don't really see him losing by ko/tko.
