the studio version of this is so goddamn good, i think it's worth sharing:
superb summer song selection.
agreed! i just snagged the first one that came up lol
HEY BUTTAH RUM!
the thing with this song is i hate, hate the "white boy island song" genre. i'm just getting into goose and looking for reasons to not like them, i get to this track and here we go with this little ditty and i think i've found my excuse. but by the time we get to "with the tide so high, i asked for her name" i'm just fuckin groovin like goddamnit. then we have that first solo -> "WAVE ON THE ROCKS / TALL DARK AND STORMY" and it's just so smooth. then "but a raging volcano / couldn't keep that giirrrrll from me" and i'm hating myself for loving it.
then they gotta go and do a keyboard breakdown into another soaring guitar solo. i LOVE that second guitar solo so much, such a beautiful tone and ease to the peak. then they wrap the whole thing up with a riveting call and response? i look down and am surprised to find myself wearing a linen camp collar shirt with a mojito in one hand and a cuban cigar in the other. goose got me.
EDIT: i was just relistening to this on spotify to type this post, and to drive home my point the next song in the algo was some non-goose white boy island music song and it was the worst thing i'd ever heard in my life.

It was so hard to narrow down a Phish song for summer but knew I’d be picking a Phish song.
yeah i could've picked from dozens of different summer set I standards. divided sky is just one of many set 1 outdoors in the sunshine phish songs.
We got it in Charleston last summer. It was a beauty, tbh we got hella blessed one set 1 closers that run. Divided Sky and The Squirming Coil. “IT GOT AWAYYYYYY YAHHHH IT GOT AWAYYYY”

That shit gets me every single time
oh man squirming coil set 1 closer is an iconic summer tour moment. everybody leaving the stage at the end and it's just page out there. always gets me.

I could run through a wall for Page. I’m pretty sure that’s the only time I’ve gotten Squirming Coil too but it left a mark on me. That song really just gets to my spirit, can’t wait for summer tour. Hell I can’t wait for Spring tour and to listen on livephish

My dad and stepmom both loved to perform. The little “make your own music video” booths at amusement parks were made for people like them. So one summer when I was a kid, I don’t even know where we were, Opryland maybe, we made a family recording at one of those booths. The song we did was Under the Boardwalk. This was long before YouTube and that recording is long gone, but this song will always hold a special summery place in my heart.

A song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget (such a good prompt! and now I'm like....hmmm ok which shitty ex should I go with here lmao)
A note: my first real heartbreak came from a relationship I was in when I was 21/22, and we listened to Sufjan together a lot. so that was painful for a little while - especially since Carrie & Lowell came out right around the time of the final dissolution of our relationship, and some of those songs could just as easily be romantic heartbreak songs as they are familial heartbreak tunes. But I very actively worked to separate the bad feels of that breakup from my favorite artist of all time's music, because I was NOT gonna lose my Suf Love in the "divorce." this asshole had already done enough; he wasn't gonna take Suf from me, too.
So I'm going with the song that was track #1 on a playlist that my shittiest ex of all time played regularly (the guy above is just 2nd shittiest, lol):
Ironic to listen to it now because I indeed never ever want to be like him (and luckily, am not). Fucking narcissist.

In general, I am all about reclaiming music you love but listened to with an ex/that reminds you of an ex (or shitty friendship or family dynamic or whatever type of relationship it may be). So I danced my ass off to "Never Be Like You" at Flume's Roo show #RevengeDancing
