Hey everyone, I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to and give a little back story of The Hot Mic Podcast. Where we are and where we want to go and who we are.
The Hot Mic is more than just a website for music news and conversation. We are photographers and writers who are seeking to build a community of passionate music fans.
The Hot Mic began as SlyVinyl, a resource for music fans collectors to learn about limited edition vinyl releases. In 2013 SlyVinyl partnered with artist Blue Sky Black Death to release a limited edition of their 2011 release Noir. Since then, SlyVinyl has released 23 limited edition records, with many more coming in the future. With the success of SlyVinyl Records, it was decided to split the news side of the site to avoid confusion. This, The Hot Mic was born!
So what sets The Hot Mic apart from any of hundreds (maybe even thousands) of music resources available on the internet? Unlike a lot of music journalism, we don’t claim to be experts on anything. We’re just a handful of passionate music fans doing what we do best… talking about music!
Our coverage includes music news, album reviews, podcasts, concert photos, concert reviews and more.
The Hot Mic is run by a small group of passionate music who have staked their own money and time to share our love of music. We have no corporate partners or owners, we charge our users nothing, and we have no ads on our site to create the best experience for our readers. You can read about our team here. None of our leadership collects a paycheck, we do this because we love music.
Ok with the formalities over, we have been live for just a few months. For now the Podcast is only available on Spotify. Not all our episodes have music embedded but please know that if you are not a premium Spotify member you will not be able to listen tot he full track. This sucks we know but for now financial limitations rule the day. We would really appreciate yuo all heading to Spotify (Premium or not) and giving us a Follow as well on Facebook and Instagram.
We at the The hot Mic are new to the Podcast world, so please go easy on us as we find our voice. We are playing with concepts at the moment and getting used to everything from hearing ourselves talk to editing ect.
We also have several Hi-5 Shuffle episodes up that have been a lot of fun. We each take our liked songs playlist and put it on Shuffle...no skips and play/discuss the first 5 songs that play. For example this episode includes a playlist with: Camera Obscura, Smith Westerns, The Beach Boys, The National, Black Sabbath, Radical Face, The Grateful Dead, Phosphorescent, 10,000 Maniacs, and Belle and Sebastian :-)
We are looking to possibly develop some form of "Inforoo Podcast brought to you by The Hot Mic" it is a loose concept at this point that will take shape over some time. I will be hosting an episode in the near future covering the creation of Inforoo and its evolution to present day.
If you made it this far...THANK YOU... I am really excited about where this can go. If you have any comments, suggestions, or thoughts please let me know.

If nothing else thank you for reminding me about Margo & the Nuclear So and So's - Broadripple is Burning was a favorite of mine in a very specific point in my life I wouldn't want to go back to but I look back on with deep appreciation for who it made me into today. Look forward to listening to their interview.

Yes! I knew if there was one place that would appreciate Margo and Richard Edwards it would be here. So we did the original episode on Margo and Nuclear So and So's as an Underappreciated Band episode. Richards publicist listened to it and liked our approach. He sent it over to Richard and he appreciated that we were "just talking about music" and did not have the rigid Question/Answer type of vibe. So he reached out and agreed to an interview.
One of my favorite interviews (even though my golden voice is not on it) was with Scott Wickberg. Scott was one of the first people in the US arrested for file sharing. This happened in 1980 and the story is hilarious, especially in todays context.
Scott was 18 years old in 1980 and had been at college for all of 3 weeks I believe. He had set up a file sharing structure to share bootleg copies of live music, no copies of store bought music was involved. So one day the FBI knocks on is dormitory door with ah search warrant. Several 40+ year old FBI agents had instructions to find and remove the incriminating mp3's. In short they had no idea what they were actually looking for. So they removed the obvious, the computer equipment, and then just to cover their ass they took EVERYTHING else including his textbooks...because you just never know where those mp3's could have been stashed.
Conversation: Michael Mavridoglou (Session Trumpeter, Horn Arranger and more)
Michael is the midwest's go to session trumpeter, horn arranger, multi instrumentalist. He has worked with Umphrey's McGee, Huey Lewis, Father John Misty, Jazz Mandolin Project, Vida Blue and many more.
A new episode of Hi-5: Shuffle is up on the Hot Mic Podcast.
Join Aaron and Brian as they throw caution to wind and spin the shuffle wheel on their Liked Song playlist. No skips, no excuses, no shame.
In this edition listen along to Courtney Barnett, St. Vincent, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Starsailor, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Angel Olson, Phil Collins and more!
It is Tuesday, so a new episode of Hi-5: Shuffle is up on the Hot Mic Podcast.
This one is a beautiful mess. Such a strange and interesting mix of music with a fun tangent into John Wick 4, some bad puns, and a Dad joke or two from our host Brian.
Brock and Brian open their Liked Songs playlist and hit shuffle.
Featuring: Phantogram, Against Me!, Common, Dwight Yoakam, Morphine, and more.
This is a special one. Brian sits down with photographer and Metal Health advocate Chad Cochran aka Cowtown Chad. Chad is not only a friend but a top notch human being and talented artist.
Chads work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Billboard, Guitar Player Magazine, Spin, No Depression, American Songwriter, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Brian discusses with Chad his journey from a metalhead adolescence to the go-to Americana photographer as well as his mental health advocacy with his I Didn't Want To Tell You series. Also learn the backstory of Chads iconic photoshoot with the one and only Orville Peck!

not really sure what thread to post this in but I thought this video essay was really good and it sort of address some of my issues I've always had about supporting artists like Donald Glover, Cudi and Doja Cat
also if you like that F.D has a ton of great vids on Leftist theory and some other hiphop stuff
