i feel like they wouldnt go for Metallica with them just playing Power Trip. i kinda believe that reddit rumor about The Rolling Stones but i also don’t see a lot of bands headining coachella in 2024. and the radius clause rules them out anyways. imo if we get a band headlining it’ll be either an icon like Macca or a batshit reunion like Talking Heads or Oasis
Stones tour is promoted by AEG. But them at Jazzfest might more point towards no anyway. Thats why then they almost had em in 2013 that was really the only shot to have them at Coachella. Rage is still waiting around to play so I dont know why you think it only has to be Talking Heads or Oasis.
only mentioned them as examples. i hope for Rage but they don’t seem to be active with Tom Morello doing solo stuff

Metallica is one of the two legacy rock bands I know of who have stated in interviews they want to play Coachella
Power Trip + Coachella will have like a 1% non local overlap so no worries about people upset they just saw Metallica
Metallica’s current tour is set up around playing the same location twice and putting on a different show each time, ready made for Coachella
This seems like the order of priority if it’s these four yes. Except I’m not sure they’d have the Stones on Saturday, which is typically when the RTTD plays after a headliner. Nobody’s after the Stones (unless they’re like “fuck it were old, let’s be done at 11”).

Wasn’t SHM rumored to be after Harry Styles before Kanye backed out? That would have been on the Friday.

Pretty sure. Also Calvin was gonna close Friday in 2020
Also I can totally see a DJ or whoever playing after Rolling Stones. Just have the schedule the same way as it was last year with Blackpink and Calvin and everyone's happy

Stones are crazy expensive may not bring relative value, and chew up the budget for other acts. Plus W1 may not have many serious Stones fans in the crowd. Jagger also said the venue was like singing into a blow dryer for 2 hours when he played Desert Trip in 2016 and the cancelled Vegas days after.
Morello is billed by himself on a couple of fests in July including MadCool Spain. In March 2023 he said no RATM on the horizon. Plus US politics in 2024 will be a complete shit show. Zach's knee or leg likely still needs healing.
BTW, Stones started their 2022 Spain show at 10:15pm at night - common for touring acts in that heat.

Lol
AEG paid $5mil per show in 2013 for arenas. Coachella 2024 would be double that for the Stones. I debated this on the old forum, but I thought the GNR booking in 2016 ate into some of the undercard budget wise - I think they paid $20mil for 2 Coachellas and the 2 Vegas arena gigs that April.
Stones already have 21 shows next year including double LA, SF, Arizona, Vegas. They only booked 15 shows in 2022. Whats the incentive for Americans to travel to Indio insted of a more local(ish) Stones show - even getting closer to the stage doesnt tip the scales that much.
Goldenvoice lost real money on Power Trip, and were also hit with an unexpected number of chargebacks from the 40,000 that skipped day 2 of Cruel World.
Coachella 2017 grossed $117mil in ticket sales alone - would you book a trio of 80 year olds without also paying an unannounced back up headliner with production ready to go? Stadiums can be moved around like they needed in 2019 and 2 shows in 2022.

They've only done RTTD twice, right? Not sure we can draw too many patterns from that.
Only two RTTD, but have had artists perform after the headliner before. Of what I could find, Chemical Brothers after Björk in 02 (Sat) Black Star after NIN in 05 (Sun) Tiësto after RHCP in 07 and after Muse in 2010 (Both Sat) Chemical Brothers after Kings of Leon in 11 (Fri) SHM after Black Keys in 12 (Fri) The Weeknd after Jack White in 15 (Sat) Calvin Harris after Blackpink this year (Sat) If you count OMG TBA after Blink on Sun W2 And if all went as planned Calvin after RATM in 2020 and SHM after Harry in 22, both on Fridays. So that being said, Saturday might have had more, but Friday isn’t quite out of the option.

I would have killed to see Black Star on the main stage. It’s one of the few acts I could imagine keeping the energy up after a NIN headlining set. Rock The Bells had supported a tour for Black Star in 2011 and I was lucky enough to see them at St Andrew’s Hall. The way they owned that stage was insane. One Be Lo and Jon Connor opened for them. J Rocc was their Dj. Bruiser Brigade did the after show in The Shelter. Pretty much every rapper of note from Detroit was at the show and they all had their own VIP section in that dingy basement for the after party. Troy Davis was wrongfully executed that night and Mos Def was the one who announced it to the crowd at a moment in which we all thought the show was coming to an end. You could feel a wave of depression, anger, and frustration move through the crowd. After a moment of silence J Rocc went into a small DJ Set which bled into Respiration and then what felt like an entirely 2nd set of solo tracks from each of them. After typing this essay out I realize I’ve lost the narrative but to put a bow on it, Danny Brown being booked is what got me to fly out to California. First time flying, first time out of the mitten other than driving to Ohio or taking a train to Chicago, and my first time at a real festival. I don’t know if anyone remembers zimride. It was like Uber but instead of paying someone for a ride it was like internet hitchhiking. Some burlesque dancer on the site agreed to give me a ride if I would let her and her friend camp in my spot. Her and her roommate picked me up in studio city after the sun went down and we got in late Thursday night of weekend two. All I had was a tent, 3 tshirts and 3 pairs of Kmart basketball shorts. No shade, no food, no money to spend, and no water other than the free pumps. Goddamnit this festival is so special and seeing a set time and stage placement like that really makes me wish I was born ten years earlier and had the opportunity to attend then.
