They wouldn't. I just wanna say I think they should have like 15 years ago. But they really arnt that big nowadays. That movie was a limited release. They would be in that Bjork/Gorillaz slot from last year
Are you equating their headliner potential to how well a re-release of a concert film from the 80s did?
Well if nobody saw it then yea lol. Also 80s were nearly half a century ago
there's an argument to be made that at this point in time, Taylor Swift is bigger than any of Coachella's previous headliners were at the time they headlined. not saying she's bigger/better/whatever in general than Beyonce or Bad Bunny, but in terms of at this moment right now, she's arguably the most dominant media presence in the entire world.
anyway, unless they're letting her do her 3+ hour show, it doesn't make much sense. she's in the middle of a highly curated/choreographed 2-year tour, it would be really strange if she also devised a two-hour festival set right in the middle of it all.
i think she'll play someday, but the idea that people have floated that she'll use a Coachella headlining appearance to kick off her next tour in a couple years or whatever makes the most sense. cramming a festival set in one of her only breaks on an international run seems like too much.
because its not logical at all, really. like not even a little bit, for many different reasons.
it could happen, but so could Rihanna or the Stones or Talking Heads.
Rihanna is a billionare, she aint gonna leave her crib for Coachella. Her the kids and Rocky prob off doing crazy side quests and shii
Stones fans won't come to Coachella. Yes, there is a bunch of old folk communities in Palm Springs but not enough to support an whole Stones tour stop
Talking Heads would be dope but they aint headliners
Talking Heads are absolutely headliners, and the Stones sold out stadiums all over the US in '21. If you went to the shows you saw people of all ages too, even kids.
Wasn't Calvin Harris the first (and only since SHM got moved up to Headliner) RTTD? I still don't see why people keep thinking this is happening... I think a co-headline is more likely than RTTD. There is certainly more precedent for co-headliners.

Even if they wanted to I don’t see them pulling LDR from the lineup now, especially now that she’s headlining Hangout. She made a big stink about her Glastonbury billing. And no RTTD is not headlining.

lol Talking Heads are absolutely headliners. you forget that LCD Soundsystem has headlined this thing before. Its of course not happening but to insuniate they wouldnt is silly

I think folks are forgetting one key variable in the seemingly revitalized “would Talking Heads headline Coachella” debate — and that’s how PT (who is still the ultimate decision maker) still views this type of rare get as proportionate to financial revenue. Part of it is the ego of getting a reunited band back together, but there will undoubtedly be more coverage of this from prestigious institutions (think New Yorker profile) as well as months of potential press from the interview circuit (eg late night, NPR, etc). This is a long term bet on branding for Paul. Only Coachella can reunite these bands. Only Coachella has the cache. Only Coachella is special enough. And that is priceless to him. It’s the same reason Bezos would spend an ungodly amount on Tolkien’s estate or why Netflix continues to invest in one or two Oscar baity projects per year. They want that prestigious recognition.
As far as crowd size, put whoever RTTD is after Talking Heads. Byrne might not like it and veto it, but at least try to get a large crowd by getting some hopefully not annoying electronic act to gather some buffer so the field doesn’t look as empty.

Yeah dude grandparents love hanging out with there grandkids. My grandma took me to a Carlos Santana show, dosen't mean im a big fan. Again, Talking Heads arent gonna ever headline Coachella. ur dululululu
I don't know much about the actual booking process, but it's crazy to me that things tend to be so much in flux leading right up to lineup drop. I'd think they'd have contracts and retainer contracts signed months ago.

Since this discussion is going in circles, can you all help me decide if I should go see Jayson Green & the Jerk tonight? Live debut with a 9-piece band of DFA artists (Nancy Whang, Nick Millhiser, W. Andrew Raposo, etc.)
Equating Taylor this year to Bunny/Frank/BP last year falls very very short of reality.
Un Verano Sin Ti was unescapable and those tix were impossible to get. They are at the same level and when you add on Frank and Black Pink on top of that its at the very least equal to getting Taylor this year.
Btw I didn't realize she was still on tour. Based on that, yeah I don't think we get her. Prob next year when the tour is all wrapped up, similar to what Bunny did.
People were paying $2,000 to sit behind the stage for her tour (in cities that had 3 dates). No artist in modern history has introduced consistent demand comparable to that, and I promise that extends to Benito too

Not saying they will, but they certainly can headline. I mean, LCD Soundsystem & the Stone Roses did. You're delusional if you don't think the Rolling Stones are still relevant among all age groups too.

no there isn’t?
Just looking at the final posters we have had 1 RTTD (Calvin Harris), and 3 Co-Headliners (Kanye and The Strokes, Blur and Stone Roses, and RATM and Tool).

You are missing the simple fact that Paul would not offer the Talking Heads anything, but a headlining spot. You are unhinged.

Jay is a great dude and James has been trying to prop him up for years. Probably will be fun to see that little family of DFA affiliated musicians get loose and funny. Plus Baby’s All Right is a fun hang anyway.

For all intents and purposes, I do think Calvin was the actual Saturday headliner, or at the very least co-headlining, but the optics of having BLACKPINK solely at the top of their day was beneficial for all parties.
