Being that they’ve never really done anything “special” for anniversaries, I don’t see why they’d start this year. The rumored old acts being mentioned just seem more like right time/right place scenarios to me. They’ve booked most of the acts like Chem Bros and Soulwax people were calling for over the last few years. Justice is about to release new music and The Prodigy have already been doing festivals so it just seems more like the logical progression than they are trying to celebrate the festivals of old.
I know there’s been speculation if Coachella were going to do something big or special for their 25th year (which is this year). I was always of the opinion that they probably treat every year as “special” and they have a hard enough time getting together a lineup as is so doing something more grand is probably out of the question.
But then I noticed a trend on some of these names that have been coming out, from a random guy on Reddit saying Living Legends are playing, that Pixies started following Coachella, speculation on The Prodigy since they might be at Ultra, names like Justice, Skepta and others. Names that are a bit unexpected at today’s Coachella, unless…
Maybe their way of celebrating 25 years won’t be by going “bigger” but rather booking more throwbacks that are Coachella alumni? I recall them featuring Richie Hawtin a couple of years ago highlighting the amount of times he’s been at Coachella and perhaps they’ll do that again but more like “it’s been 25 years and here are some artists who’ve been with us during that time”. Justice has a history with Coachella, The Prodigy are from Coachella’s first few years, Living Legends are… well… living legends of Cali underground hip-hop. My guess on Resonate Suwanee’s unannounced artist is Beats Antique and they fit this mold. There are also a few other artists I’ve heard are playing that I can’t share but certainly apart of Coachella’s history. Hell, even Tyler works for this.
I dunno, just a random thought I had yesterday and seeing the Skepta talk made me think of this again. Obviously I wouldn’t expect a ton of throwbacks on the lineup this year but I wouldn’t be too surprised if there were more than usual this year if they’re trying to do something like this.

All this line-up/booking drama.....i am usually down for it...but this is not a good look for Coachella. My wish...and again i'm just a dusty old queen from the east coast-ish, but Paul/GV/Coachella need to take a hit finically and book the most bad ass headliners they can get this year to save face. And honestly i don't even know who that would be at this time? The Stones, Rhianna, McCartney.....do whatever it takes!!!! I have this nagging feeling that this is the beginning of the end for Coachella if they don't step that kitty cat up!!!
I really need the lineup to come out right now. Didn't sleep worth a shit and 4 cups of coffee isn't helping. Only the boost of the line up dropping can wake me up at this point.

Lana and Tyler are friends and have a lot of fan crossover. It would make the most sense for them to coheadline. I don't think the poster placement is the issue, as much as wanting to close the stage

Prince yes, and he was only added to help ticket sales. Dre & Snoop no. Madonna maybe, but she didn't headline. Gaga replaced Beyonce so I'm not sure that counts either.

Dre/Snoop was on the initial poster, and Gaga was only late because Beyoncé dropped. Madonna wasn’t a headliner. Prince was the only late add headliner.
I’m fine waiting another week or two, though I hope not to have to; past that and I think they’ll need to put something out.

I don’t think the current headliners or the delay is going to hurt them at all. I’d be anxious a bit waiting if I were going, but none of this will matter when the lineup comes out in literal days/hours.
