NGL The Black Keys are a semi-bucket list for me, particularly because they were supposed to play my city in 2020 and never rescheduled
That’s a really reachable bucket
Sure is, gotta have at least one obtainable one hey! But also I'm in the ass middle of nowhere in Canada so even TBK is a rare get around these parts so travel is almost always a must regardless
Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.
I see repeated references to "old coachella headliners" and "critical acclaim" and I feel like I must have imagined the Coldplay and Muse and KoL years.
Jack Johnson headlined off of banana pancakes and the Curious George album.
Coldplay, Muse, and Kings of Leon were all critically acclaimed pretty much until they headlined Coachella (KoL fell off after their first three albums, but those were all very well received). Not much defending Jack Johnson though, and it was seen as a joke at the time. Having Prince and Roger Waters as the other two made it much more palatable.
I think it would have to depend on how loosely you defined critical acclaim. Coldplay was always fairly well mocked, and Muse was usually derided as Bends-era cosplay. KOl headlined Coachella like 2 years after Sex on Fire. One could argue that at various points they had acclaim, but all 3 were pretty cooked and corny by the time they headlined.

Coldplay was cooked during X&Y era?? That's news to me

I'm going off of metacritic scores.
Coldplay: 72, 80, 72 (headlined on that one);
Muse: first two albums not on Metacritic but second album had an 8.3 from Pitchfork, then: 72, 75, 72 (headlined)
KOL: 79, 74, 79, then down into the 60's for two albums ahead of headlining.
Sure, people made fun of all three for various reasons, but they were generally acclaimed, only the 4th and 5th albums from KoL approaching bad reviews.

I don't think any of this is really in opposition with what I'm saying. Not that I take metacritic or Pitchfork as gospel, but those 72s are well below the bar that Lana and Tyler have been at. It doesn't scream critical acclaim to me.
My broader point was that it's easy to say "X&Y is a classic" today, but at the time I don't think it was seen that way.
As someone who loves Brothers and El Camino I really don't care about seeing The Black Keys in 2024. That's a state fair band at this point
It’s funny you say this. We saw them more recently in an arena and felt this exact sentiment more or less. Felt the venue was way off and would have been cool at like some large outdoor bar venue in Austin or something.

Funny because they actually played the Iowa State Fair last year. Ended up not going so if they were at Coachella I guess I’ll be able to catch them this time lmao

This is what they get for treating Michelle Branch the way they did!!!!!
