I don't always agree 100% with his takes but I usually find King Vamp to be a credible and important Inforoo voice on zoomer culture.
There's at least more nuance and provocation then people citing streaming #s.
The two most tired things here are citing streaming numbers and talking about who would have the biggest crowd, as if either equates directly to headlining

It's also funny bc if Coachella truly booked by streams and popularity all of inforoos beloved white ppl with gutairs bands wouldn't even be playing anymore. It would just become a Reaggaton festival lol

As a Zoomer here are some thoughts: - LDR is beloved by Gen Z and her resurgence these last 2 years is a testament to her staying power. Born to Die, despite being one of her worst albums, will probably be considered a classic in 10-20 years. She is still polarizing but Coachella giving her a headlining slot is indeed a unique choice. - T,TC is also a Gen Z favorite with each album being better than the last in my opinion. He’s also a solid performer with a dedicated fanbase. I don’t think he appeals much or at all to the older gens though. - Doja Cat is also polarizing. Giving her a headlining slot seems premature, even if she can put on a performance. Her most popular songs are still pop-rap hybrids and she has yet to put out a solid album. - Justin Timberlake isn’t well-liked post Britney memoir. I don’t think that’s a consideration for whether or not he headlines but it feels more Super Bowl less Coachella.
having only gone to coachella post-pandemic feels like paris-syndrome. seems like all of the things that made me want to go in the first place are gone / fading out. lineup used to be groundbreaking up&coming artists and tbh last few years feels like it’s either for normies who listen to radio or old heads on reddit wanting to see repeat acts. like damn what happened to all the acts for people who mainly listen to new (but not corny & mainstream) artists.

I do think there was a shift but that shift also happened to basically every other festival once music festivals in the US became more mainstream. It also happened years before the pandemic.
But also maybe I was just aging.

Coachella has always been corny and mainstream. Go to real shows.

Two things can be true at the same time; personally, I felt the shift in festival lineups happened around 2010 and it was largely due to this very festival---when celebrity sightings became the thing I was asked about that year I attended. Coupled with time and influencer culture, you get to this point where we are now. Sure we're older and yelling at clouds but dammit, I can't seem to help it
I’m probably as “come on guys, book more rawk” as anyone on this thread, but don’t understand the obsession with A7X
That’s about as poorly as they can do to book a heavy second line act. I’d take it and probably see the set, but this threads been oddly fascinated with them

This would be a great time to post who you’ve seen at Coachella and enjoyed.
