So Coldplay has had both Robyn and Fiona Apple as opening acts in the past. Also seem to be friendly and close with Kylie Minogue who joined them for a performance as recently as last year. Dream scenario that they can bring them along if they are in consideration.
Fiona Apple was not happy on that tour, like at all.
Then came rumors Daft Punk was going to join them, which got them a big crowd -- for W1.
And it was R Kelly instead.
I was reminiscing about this last night at the Postal Service/Death Cab show. I remember the immediate reaction on Sunday morning on the old Coachella forum was they should have flipped PS and Phoenix; I guess we all feel the same 10 years later.

My friends gave me so much shit for skipping Phoenix:
"You know Daft Punk are gonna join them, right?" "Someone saw one of the guys from Daft Punk backstage!" "They wouldn't be headlining if Daft Punk weren't showing up." "New Order are washed up and don't even have Peter Hook anymore!"
I'm sure Phoenix put on a good show - they're probably incapable of putting on a bad show - but man was it fun getting the last laugh.

They were giving those tickets away like hot cakes everywhere

If I would've known they were that cheap, I would've went.
Doing 1 album per night was probably not a great idea lol
Sad to say, RTJ's run is probably over. A legendary run for sure. Maybe we get one more send off album.

Thats why you just check stubhub if you were interested. If they didnt want to give away tickets like that then 2 albums a night was the move. But their guarantee was probably better doing 4.
jerry harrison’s manager on the talking heads subreddit confirmed that a reunion isn’t on the cards (obviously) but also that paul has sent them offers every year for the last ten years for them to reunite at the fields lol
Checked back through his history and it’s mostly posting in r/lawschool. Make of it what you will!
Original post that got deleted…
I'm gonna delete this soon, because I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say this publicly. Rob Light head of music at CAA just confirmed to me in my law school class that Dua will not be at Coachella next year due to them gearing up for the next album coming out and wanting to form the tour around the new album before having her play a festival again. He said things looked good for 2025, though, which makes sense considering she played Primavera at the height of her last tour. ETA: He could be fibbing, but it seemed like an earnest response, considering it makes no sense for her to perform at Coachella before the album even comes out or right when it comes out. She has no new material to play if she doesn't release before, and no one will know the album if she plays right after release.
And then I got downvoted and reported for questioning whether this exec would be truthful about this. Gotta love Redditors.

This was my thought as well, along with the idea that Dua wouldn’t have new material before Coachella. She’s a major pop star and it’ll have been four years since Future Nostalgia by the time W1 rolls around, I’d be shocked if she had nothing to show by that time!

She may just prefer to do it as a victory lap rather than starting the tour with the risk of the album not being finished? That whole post reminded me of when somebody said they were in a class with Eric Roth and learned about him working on the concept for Frank Ocean's show haha. I do actually mostly believe it, it's too weirdly specific to seem totally unbelievable.

Sure, if the album won't be finished by then I could understand not wanting to do Coachella yet but artists also use Coachella as a promotional tool for their album or tour. The issue I find with the victory lap idea is the risk of the album being a disappointment. There's no guarantee if Coachella will still be as interested in her a year later as they would be for this Coachella.

honestly a pretty sick concept, not a terrible lineup for wook standards either
Me and the boys have been daydreaming about booking a fest like this and having Sigur Ros play during the totality.
looks like it'll hit that spot around 1:30 Monday afternoon, I have to imagine nobody will actually be playing during the totality, more like a host will be talking? idk. Also this might be the first Saturday-Tuesday fest I've ever seen
