Watching all these videos of Aphex at Sonar are making me sad Portola didn’t lock him down. Oh well, maybe next year.
Were those big cubes his own production? Would love to see him return to the US with that rig.
hanging cube and angled screens in front of his setup are the same as best kept secret. We had 2 tall rectangle screens on front on the side and sonar has a backing screen
On the phone signal: “The cell signal was one of those kinks we learned about in year 1. We didn't expect it to be that bad, but it was baaadddd. We've been working on addressing it for this year. More on this soon.”
On setting up more seating areas: “This is one of our primary focuses this year. We've been working on creating multiple, large hang areas to fill in the empty space on site and have places for friends to hang for a bit and have a drink (or 5, or some food...).”
On the staging: “The Pier Stage will be in the same position, but slightly turned in order to direct sound to the north side of the pier to alleviate sound bleed to the other stages. The Crane Stage is being fully re-designed as a large outdoor amphitheater on the water. The Ship Tent will move further east on the site to make sure we wont' have sound bleed issues with the pier stage like last year. And the warehouse is being completely re-configured and re-designed. We are moving the stage and adding lots of additional entrances and exits. It will be a vibe.”
On Aphex Twin: “LOL. RUMOR MILL”
(They also said elsewhere they couldn’t afford Despacio this year.)

Also Dave Rat is helping them with sound which is great. Surprised he wasnt doing it for them last year since GV has him on retainer
The other stage announcements were made today, I won't link to them all but they're on Twitter. Some movement happened (Tokischa and Cobrah switched days, Jyoty may have dropped out?), but also interestingly both the Crane and Ship tents have a mix of DJs and live acts unlike last year when they were separated. Will be interesting to see how that affects the schedule.

Lol conflicts ended up a bit harder for me. Going to have to sprint from Nelly to end of Jai Paul (edit: lol jk) and not really sure what to do after Roisin on Sunday. (At least I saw Kavinsky/Avalon coming.)
I think the funny thing here is that all my conflicts are for the most part with acts I’ve seen pretty recently and yet I want to see all those same ones again lol.
Gf and I just got offered two tickets from a friend working the event. Unsure if we'll commit since we got Riot two weeks before, but looking thru the schedule I got:
(Two Shell or Barry ??) -> Dom Dolla -> Major Lazer B2b -> Polo y Pan -> end of Jai Paul -> Eric Prydz -> Underworld
(Jayda G ??) -> Little Simz -> Kavinsky -> Todd terje -> Labrinth -> Skrillex -> The Blaze
Would love suggestions for if we swing it! Id skip Bonobo, Overmono and Sam G because I've caught/am catching them this year.

It's wild that people are passing up the chance to see Young Fathers (AOTY contender), to see the Dare. Not inforoo specific, I've seen chatter elsewhere about people having the Dare on their must see lists.

I’ve liked Young Fathers’ previous albums but I didn’t like the new one much at all actually lol.
For those who went last year: I know cell service was bad at the venue, but do you have any tips for calling a car after the festival ends? Is it better to do a taxi, uber, etc.? Trying to bolt to the aftershow on Saturday.

Walking a few blocks away then call an Uber. We got one pretty quickly last year. Service will be fine right after. It’s just shit right on the port.

I’m a very big Roísin fan and this would be a terrible drop for myself since I have tickets to her standalone show in LA a few nights before. But actions have consequences, and I guess that could be on the table.
I will say the record label didn’t drop her. So in my opinion they are just hoping that this blows over in the next couple weeks and don’t want to get her name constantly blasted in the news cycle right before the album drops.
Will be interested to see how this impacts reviews…. Specifically Pitchfork. They’ve already given two or three tracks on this album best new music and a glowing pre album interview where they previewed the entire album with high praise.
