Why do people think Blur is a possibility specifically for this?
My friend works at a venue in Mississippi. Nothing is confirmed, but they’re looking into booking Blur next year. They’re trying to get PJ Harvey, QOTSA, and The Smile.
Taking this with a mountain of salt but I really want to see blur....
Duran Duran, Weird Al, Beach Boys, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Ministry, The Offspring, Stone Temple Pilots, Guns N’ Roses, ZZ Top, Elton John, Maroon 5, Alice Cooper, Journey, Alanis Morissette, Alan Jackson, etc. have all been booked for the Mississippi gulf coast within the last 10 years or so. Some of those have been at the same venue. They almost got Johnny Marr a few years ago, but the owner didn’t give approve it. They’re getting an ampitheater next year and are supposed to get a Universal Music themed hotel/venue worth over 1 billion. If the Mississippi gulf coast can book those names, I assure you they’re capable of getting Blur.
From a music style standpoint, I agree. Her style doesn’t quite fit Shaky’s vibe, especially as a headliner. She’d be a huge draw though, and would absolutely sell tickets. Either way, I can’t imagine Tim would book her.
She has overlap with Father John Misty, Phoebe Bridgers, Stevie Nicks, The Lumineers, The xx, Japanese Breakfast, Florence + the Machine, etc. It’s weird to me how people think that Blink-182 is an appropriate fit after one pop-punk act, Green Day, gets booked, but Lana’s potential is dismissed when there have been several high profile acts with fan overlap booked at Shaky Knees.
Also, she was supposed to play Hangout Fest on the gulf coast a few years ago but didn’t due to the pandemic. If she gets rebooked for that, it would put her in the southeast during May around the time of Shaky Knees.
Probably because Lana is pop not indie or alt rock like the others you mentioned. I mean if we’re going to book Lana because some of her fans might also be into indie and rock let’s just go book a Lorde or Billie Ellish. Shaky has certainly expanded but aside from a couple of rap acts it’s been prettier strictly rock. And blink is a far better fit for the Shaky vibe. Lana is way more of a Music Midtown vibe

Fair enough since she’s actually played there before. Keep in mind though that MM has booked acts like Fall Out Boy, Panic!, ADTR, and MCR before. They actually have more history with high profile pop punk/emo acts than Shaky Knees does.

Blur haven’t played a US show that wasn’t in California or NY in 20 years.

Blur is a more rare act than any of these
you don’t understand
They booked modern Beach Boys, Weird Al and ZZ Top. These are the biggest acts in the world. Artists are just itching to play Mississippi.

I just don’t see a festival that’s flying high off its best performing year from booking 3 very popular headliners taking a left turn and grabbing Blur who just doesn’t have the pull in the US that they do globally. Maybe if they threw Gorillaz a bag and had Blur close Piedmont the day before? Probably unlikely too.
A lot of artists globally end up this situation where they’re so much more popular abroad that the demand in the US just can’t reach their asking price, and they maybe play Coachella and an occasional NYC show.

I don’t think Lana plays but it wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen. It’s always funny to see people freak out when someone who isn’t REAL ROCK gets suggested as a HL. Lana’s music really isn’t that much different from The National.

fwiw, I don’t actually think Lana would be a horrible booking for shaky, I was just trying to turn a Reddit post from a few days ago I thought sounded pretentious into a copypasta

oh I didn’t even see that. I’m not talking about anyone here either but on the Facebook group, people will act like you’ve said the most offensive thing ever if you suggest acts that aren’t rock. Even shit like JPEG, Death Grips, or Noah Kahan, they’ll pretend like you’re trying to turn the fest into Lollapalooza.

Any predictions on lineup drop timing? And I assume we aren’t going to get a pre-lineup presale but would be nice in order to avoid last year’s madness. We’re going no matter what.
2019: Nov 14, 2018 2020: Nov 20, 2019 2022: Nov 10, 2021 2023: Nov 30, 2022
All are Wednesdays so I guess it’s most likely 11/15, 11/22, or 11/29?
I’d like to think we’re in the 2-3 week range as last years might have been delayed due to working out the gun situation.

I think so too, 2022 was also delayed two days I think after Astroworld. Would think we’ll hear something this week.

Tim Sweetwood via Facebook: “[Noah Kahan] didn’t come out of nowhere really, been playing for a long time, but released some big hits. Sold out arena tour across the US and even some stadiums, like double Fenway. I’m old 🙂, and sometimes hard to keep up, but he is great, and really great live.”

That’s at least his second FB comment on Kahan in the last month or so. Probably booked but hopefully he got him at the pre-arena/stadium tour price and not at headliner pricing.

The Innings and Extra Innings lineups still aren't out though, and he said he likes to keep everything staggered. I think Innings this week, Shaky not until the end of the month, prob...

Yup, someone complained about Noah being boring and Tim commented defending how good he is live.

doesn’t feel like something he’d do if Kahan was t headlining. People badmouth acts they book all the time but it’s like he knows he took a bit of a risk here.
