Yeah for real. I don’t think anyone is arguing whether they sell tickets. There are other options that also sell tickets.
The issue with Boygenius is that if you took Phoebe away from it, their popularity plummets immediately. The whole thing is Phoebe. I’m not denying that Lucy and Julien are amazingly talented women too, but Phoebe’s individual popularity is the push for that band to play places as big as they do. So if we’re gonna have her in a headliner slot, it should just be her. I don’t think Boygenius cuts it at all. They’re fine to sub
They’re doing Lolla Brazil in March, so clearly open to fests in America. I don’t see how a 5 day turnaround from Atlanta to Paris is a problem at all.
It’s not just 5 days. It often takes a day or 2 in advance to set up a stadium show. You also have to factor in the full day of travel and then potential media appearances since it’s the beginning of Taylor’s European dates. Paramore could also be doing some solo gigs in Europe before they’re with her. It’s like 3 days at best.

This is a stupid argument. Most bands have a frontperson that’s the reason for their success. Most bands don’t have 3 great songwriters. Who cares if one of them is more popular?

There are many people who are great songwriters, but that by itself doesn’t get you a headline slot at a major festival

They do not need to be present for the setup. They’re not going to do press appearances, they’re an opening act. And you’re just assuming they’re gonna do solo gigs there before it. This is all very ‘what if’ scenario

Play Shaky Friday. Fly to Paris Saturday. Chill/acclimate to time zone Sunday. Ready to go for setup and media Monday-Wednesday and perform Thursday. Not even remotely difficult tour routing.

I think it was a badly worded argument, but the argument that the frontperson has 2.5x more popular solo work than the band as a group does has some weight. Can't think of too many comparable examples, because all the natural ones would have the group getting a popularity kick from a reunion (Timberlake/NSYNC, Beyonce/Destiny's Child)

There was nothing badly worded about it unless you just don’t want to face the fact of how true it is

I’m not assuming they’re doing solo gigs. I don’t think they are. I’m presenting potential scenarios that could prevent them from being at SK. That doesn’t automatically mean that I believe they will happen. You can engage in hypotheticals without them being an actual prediction. At the end of the day, we’re all engaging in what-ifs. I believe that the what-if scenario of them headlining Friday before heading to Europe is significantly less likely than the what-if scenarios where they don’t play to the point where I’d be willing to wager 50 bucks that they’re not at Shaky Knees.

Saw Mudcrutch headline a festival, I assume because Tom Petty was in it. They did not deserve the slot while obviously Tom Petty would have.

They also don’t have sufficient material as a group to fill the slot. At least based on what’s available on Spotify. So I assume they would play an hour as boygenius, do covers or talk for awhile, and then do some of their solo songs.
Just doesn’t feel like something that makes the most sense as a headliner. Definitely works as a sub though.

their MSG show was actually 105 minutes with only 3 solo tracks

Yeah you’re right. I missed an EP. They have a whopping 80 mins of material on Spotify. Thats like 3 King Gizz songs!
Just say you’re not a fan. It’s a lot better than the argument you’re making.
I love Phoebe, Julien and Lucy. I have nothing against them as musicians and artists. But they’re not going to move this festival to a sellout
We don’t even know if they’re playing. I don’t think they are. It’s just a dumb argument against them not playing. How about the fact that they just played a smaller festival last year in the same park on a smaller stage.

Just days ago I’d have not even entertained the notion of Noah headlining. But after listening, and forming my own opinion, he has a lot of fun songs and plenty that would have me feelin’ all types of things on Sunday night ending the weekend. I hate to quote Tame Impala at a time like this, but it might be time to face it
look at the types of venues Noah is selling out, the resale prices and report back
I mean it in the sense that it’ll upset the core fan base much like last Years booking of The Lumineers.
I mean, people can get as upset as they like. I still hate the Lumineers as much as I’ve hated them for a long time, but regardless of how we feel, I saw their crowd. It was fucking massive
