couple dudes on the fb group who I’ve never know to have scoopz say it’s Arctic Monkeys boygenius QOTSA, could just be bullshitting tho
Kind of seems like worst case scenario? Not a headliner trio that will sell out the festival either (not that I'm complaining). Maybe I was just too excited about the idea of seeing Metallica

idk I like AM more than most here and even tho QOSTA are a lock, I wouldn’t mind them getting a full 90.

My evaluation of the likelihood of potential headliners from most likely to least likely:
1. Foo Fighters - They have an established relationship with the festival and are in the area. We know exactly which venues they’re playing at on their tour that haven’t been announced yet because they all promoted the tour on social media. There wasn’t one for Atlanta. They will likely be in NOLA for Jazz Fest right before SK too.
2. Queens of the Stone Age - They would be number 1 if it wasn’t for the possibility of them being a subheadliner since we can all pretty much agree that they’re on the lineup.
3. Lana Del Rey - She’s been spending a lot of time in the South lately but skipped Atlanta on her recent southern tour. A source confirmed she’s out for Bonnaroo, and SK does fall under its radius clause. She has a rumored world tour next year. She’s also rumored for Hangout fest in Alabama and has announced appearances headlining 2 European festivals. Prior to the Reading/Leeds announcement, her European tour could have started before Primavera but with her being over there in late August, Primavera is more likely around the beginning of the overseas dates. She would also fit with the theme of having a softer Sunday headliner and even has fan overlap with Sunday acts like The Lumineers and Father John Misty.
4. Gorillaz - I could see them including Shaky Knees in a rescheduled North American tour. The biggest obstacle is that Damon may be busy with Blur.
5.Noah Kahan - There’s a reasonable chance he’s at the festival in some capacity, but Noah’s potential to headline is reliant upon the popularity of the other 2 headliners. I’m leaning towards him subbing but could easily see him closing Sunday if the other 2 acts are bigger names such as Foos, Metallica, DM, or Lana.
6. Metallica - Some May believe that they’re too expensive, but they’ve played sets at festivals with similar daily capacities such as Boston Calling, which was able to afford them, Foos, and The Strokes for 2022. We know that they’re active in May next year with enough time for them to transport their gear/crew and that Tim is a fan. However, they are a band that would fit in at Rockville and are missing from the lineup. Plus, SK’s focus on alternative may not mesh perfectly with their core fanbase.
7. Slipknot - They’re at Rockville the next weekend, so that gives them some weight. However, they stylistically feel like the biggest stretch for Shaky Knees out of these potential names. Also, they’re all the way over in Vegas for SNW a week prior, so I could see them doing some shows in between SNW and Rockville through say LA, Phoenix, Texas, etc. that could prevent them from playing Shaky Knees.
8. Arctic Monkeys - While they did state they were not touring, plans could be subject to change. However, they’d definitely fit in. The lack of any US announcements for next year after announcing their previous US tour gives me some hesitation though.
9. Depeche Mode - My dad and I are obsessive DM fans. We follow them religiously. I’m in like a dozen FB groups for them, and my dad listens to Richard Blade daily. We haven’t heard or seen anything indicating additional US dates next year. Also, they generally only 2 US legs after each album and don’t tour in between album cycles. That said, Andrew Fletcher did act as their manager, so patterns could change following his death, and they’re an iconic alternative band that would please a lot of attendees.
10. Ghost - They’re a stretch like Slipknot but their absence at Rockville doesn’t help their chances.
11. Paramore - I definitely think they’d fit at SK and could easily see them headlining a future year, but I don’t see it next year due to their shows in Europe shortly afterwards.
12. Boygenius - I’m just not sure if Boygenius is ready to be a headliner yet.
I’m not really familiar with Lana Del Ray at all. Im an older guy and get my exposure to new music mainly through festival lineups and what I catch on SXM (Alt Nation and Liquid Metal). Just scanned through the top 5 tracks on Spotify and am having a really hard time finding an upbeat track. I can tell from her listens and other festival lists that she is popular and an obvious headliner, just doesn’t feel like a Shaky headliner to me.
Just for reference, I went back the last several years of Shaky and there have only been 3 headliners that don’t have rotational play on Alt Nation or Lithium: RTJ, Stevie Nicks, MMJ.
By the way, if I’m wrong about what I’m saying on LDR energy I want to know. Tell me which album or whatever to listen to.

Born to Die is probably her most upbeat album with Blue Jeans, Off to the Races, National Anthem, Diet Mountain Dew, and This Is What Makes Us Girls all on it, but her lyrics were less mature at the time. Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys worked on the Ultraviolence album. I recommend the song West Coast from that one as it’s one of her most beloved tracks and really encapsulates her vibes. Her best overall album is Norman Fucking Rockwell though. It’s not as upbeat as Born to Die, but it’s very beautiful and has a cover of Doin’ Time by Sublime. If you like indie folk stuff, then check out her most recent album since it features Bleachers and Father John Misty. A&W from that album is a banger during the 2nd half.
The people saying that Boygenius are not a headliner obviously didn't see them over the summer on thr Re/Set tour. Fantastic set and obviously headline worthy for a midlevel festival like this.

I don’t think the debate is over their talent, it’s that they’re not headliner level big. Sure they have a dedicated fan base, but, if Spotify listeners tell us anything, they’re really not as popular as the other possibilities, and likely wouldn’t drive ticket sales.

I’m listening to the album right now. It’s good. But if I have to listen to this after being in the sun and drinking most of the day I’m probably going to fall asleep. They just don’t have enough content to headline imo.
Edit: I wish more of their tracks were like Satanist and $20.

I’m a fan of the album, just don’t see both them and Noah headlining this

I think your assessment on Lana is right. She’s certainly more down tempo but so are The National and they’ve headline twice.

Kahan & Paramore should be 1/2 on this list
Maybe I’d move Kahan up a space since we don’t have any actual confirmation that Gorillaz is playing any shows next year, but I can’t justify putting Paramore any higher than say Arctic Monkeys or Depeche Mode since there’s no indication yet that they’re doing US shows before Europe and because they could have logistics/scheduling conflicts at that time.

They’re doing Lolla Brazil in March, so clearly open to fests in America. I don’t see how a 5 day turnaround from Atlanta to Paris is a problem at all.
Didn’t Boygenius sell out MSG, Red Rocks, the Hollywood Bowl and were the only day to sell out some of the Re:SET shows? You can look at streaming and make assumptions based on that sure, but I think the reality is people are actually coming out to the shows. Enough for them to be a headliner? Well if selling out some major venues (for a mid-level festival like this) in the country is any indication…maybe!

Please, I beg you, stop manifesting that
Yeah for real. I don’t think anyone is arguing whether they sell tickets. There are other options that also sell tickets.

They announced their reunion, released the album, and did a bunch of one off shows. They didn’t have a traditional tour so the only way for old and new fans to see them was these dates.
