Some personal highlights: Herbie Hancock, Laurie Anderson, Songs of Chipotle, Digable Planets, Fred Frith, Kagami by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum, Just Charles & Cello in the Romantic Chord by La Monte Young & Zazeela, Bitchin Bajas, Roger Eno.
Absolutely solid line-up... but with no "OMG I never thought I'd see then live" (La Monte Young in person would have fallen into that category), coupled with my already-WAY-over-budget trip in February + increased ticket and hotel prices... I think I'm out this year. First BEF I'll have missed since I first attended in 2015 😟

I completely missed Unwound in the 90s. I recently checked out some of their music, and I really like it. But they're not a group I've been aching to see for decades. This is, without a doubt, an unreasonable line in the sand... but given the perfect financial storm I mentioned, it's the line I've drawn... I know that they're likely going to announce some additional artists which will have me kicking myself. But here I am

Jokes. I fully understand. It's increased across the board and that alone makes it rough. It'll still be around and hopefully a line-up will speak enough to you.

This had me thinking about my "OMG" list... what artists could have been added that would have made me pull out the ol' Diners Club of America card
Air | Bark Psychosis | Birdsongs of the Mesozoic | Brian Eno | Cocteau Twins | Cranes | David Sylvian | Hugo Largo | Jean-Michel Jarre | John Cale | Kate Bush | La Monte Young | M3 | Mission of Burma | Mojave 3 | Moonshake | Oingo Boingo (or solo Danny Elfman) | Orbital | Pale Saints | Planet P Project | Ron Geesin | Roy Harper | Space | Spacemen 3 | Steve Reich | Talking Heads | The Apartments | The Art of Noise | The Last Shadow Puppets | The Monochrome Set | The Normal | Tindersticks | XTC (or anything that includes Andy Partridge or Colin Moulding)

I just noticed that the two shows I'd be most excited to see (Sakomoto & Young's compositions) are two of the "separately ticketed events." That makes my decision much easier, to be honest... Oof.

Ya, definitely an easy pass for me as well.
I've decided to just do Premier again as I'm 100% Unwound won't be playing the Tennessee or Bijou.

Big Ears will also host a 70th birthday celebration for guitarist Marc Ribot, who appeared this year with The Jazz-Bins and a reunited Los Cubanos Postizos. He’ll perform next year with Ceramic Dog, among other ensembles yet to be announced.
