Hey y’all! I have an “overland” built Suburban. Everything about it is geared to camping on the passenger side and cooking out the back. The biggest thing is the awning is permanently mounted to the passenger side. It looks from the pics and videos that you’re kinda stuck with whatever camping orientation they put you in when you park. How much of an issue would it be to turn around in the campsite if need be? I think I’m communicating my first world concern properly. Be my first Roo in 12 years. ❤️

If you let staff know I think you'll be ok but don't count on it. Cooking out the back might not work since we're camped to the side of our cars. Be a good neighbor and cook for them and I'm sure they won't mind.

We have moved our cars in the past before. They don't like it and you usually need to wait until the whole lane is filled, but you should be fine if you have to rearrange your car.
Like Vampy said tell the volunteers first to try to not have to move your car and, the cooking out the back as awesome as that sounds might be not great in reality. Be friendly with your neighbors and you might be able to make it a little smoother of an issue. LOL Welcome back to the farm, you are going to have the best time. ❤️
Good questions to ask ahead of time. I've been debating on whether now is the time to fit my truck with a roof top tent, and what else I want to do. If I get to that in the next few weeks, my simple setup should be easy enough to loosen and rotate 180 degrees, if necessary. I'll keep an eye out for a nifty Suburban.
To add to the good replies you already got, I've seen vars turn around when they have reason to, and I've also seen staff insist that that's not allowed because it points you into traffic in the even of an emergency, blah blah blah. You'll probably be alright either getting parked the right way from the start of you talk to the staff, or turning around after the fact. In recent years, they've lined everyone up bumper to bumper with campsites randomly to the left or right, whereas they used to park us next to each other like a parking lot.
Cooking out the back sounds more problematic to me. The campsites are premarked and not very big, so you likely won't have much room in front of or behind you, especially with a longer vehicle. I only have a midsize truck and I barely had any space behind me last year. But yeah, if you cozy up to the neighbors immediately you can probably make that work if you don't need too much space.

The main thing for me is the orientation of the ARB awning. Of course I could bring a pop up and do all the things but Id like to use the burb for it’s intended purpose. Be that as it may I’ll probably bring all the things just in case. Including a camp table for the Coleman stove. lol
What got me here is the 20x20 camping space mentioned on the website. I’ve been to a couple fests where there were literally 20x20 boxes painted in the grass. But now I get that ain’t the Roo way and that’s perfectly ok. Gonna be great regardless!

There WILL literally be a 10x20 box painted on the ground next to the row of parked vehicles. I think they started doing that in 2013 or 2014. Makes it fair so a-holes can't crowd others out and act like they had no idea what they were doing, but it seems a little tight if you roll with one vehicle.
I don't blame you for wanting to use what ya got - sounds like a setup I'd enjoy. And you may end up being just fine with that. I'm really beginning to like the idea of a nice RTT and attached awning, because the main things that keep me from camping more are my limited time, the hassle of setting up and tearing down for just a night or two at a time, and some of the places I go are not always conducive to ground tents because they get muddy. That's all less applicable to Roo, but I'm definitely leaning towards the overland style as I get older.
I have a minivan with stow and go seats. When I put them down they leave a flat cargo area big enough for a twin size Aero bed and a large cooler. Setup couldn't be easier and you have a vehicle that's just a car the rest of the year. It's also very discreet to sleep in in Walmart parking lots unlike a camper van. I always park it "backwards" at Bonnaroo but do it immediately at arrival and have never been given any shit about it.
