The DCU Thread - Can't let Marvel have all the fun

My take is that this DCU reset is happening 5 years too late, and unless Gunn has something really innovative and interesting up his sleeve that it will fall flat on its face from general superhero/comic fatigue.

And The Flash reviews are looking pretty mid.

I think he has exactly that. We just have to get through Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 this year, then we have a break next year, after that if he knocks it out of the park with Superman (I think he will) we're in pretty good shape. Every movie is supposed to have it's own tone and style. He's also keeping it to two movies and two tv shows a year. We won't get movies going into production without a finished script like we've seen with Marvel the last few years. So I think all of those things will help with "superhero fatigue". The writers strike situation doesn't look great but you know, just pay your fucking writers!  

Definitely interested to see what Gunn will do with Superman. I reread All Star Superman last year, which I think may be a source of influence for his new film, at least in terms of tone, with a more playful and warm, charismatic take on Supes. Funny because as I was reading that I fancasted Jacob Elordi as Supes and Nicholas Hoult as Lex, both of which appear to be front runners for casting. Idk if Elordi is the best to play a warm,cuddly Superman but I think he looks the part more than any of the other actors in the running.

It really will be interesting to see if they try keeping him on board with Gunn's future plans. Still waiting to see what happens with him and what happens with Maiors over at Marvel.

As in waiting to see what the other company does? Or what?

Ah that makes sense. I thought Ezra did well in The Flash. I did see some critics bombing the movie without actually reviewing the movie. Just bombing it because the issues with Ezra.

Gunn did seem to really enjoy Flash, if he wasn't just bullshitting to promote it. So this makes sense.

Does this officially kill the Pattinson universe? Are they still making one more but then that's it? Hmmm

Interested, as always, to see who gets cast in various roles. Hopefully a unique take on a villain not used to death

Andy Muschietti (director of The Flash and IT movies) is heavily rumored to be directing Brave and The Bold. That gives me hope for having two distinct cinematic Batmans at the same time. He seems to have done a good job with Michael Keaton and Batfleck.

The Penguin show is still happening so if that had gotten scrapped then the chances are lower they would be moving forward with anything else.

Sure, let's do it. The article says they're thinking about Josh Hartnett and Joel Edgerton who both are solid. I love Hartnett and would love to see him sink his teeth into something like this.


He's a little older but I'd like to see Tim Olyphant give a try. Or play any villain in this world.


Daniel Radcliffe? would be interesting but a bit younger than they may be going for.


Jason Segel could probably play pretty menacing and crazy. Jon Hamm could work.

WALTON GOGGINS. Give me Goggins in anything.

Hartnett would be fine but Edgerton is a rockstar.

Hartnett was also in this one Kevin Hart/John Travolta Amazon Prime comedy I watched for some reason.

Wonder if they go full on Bat-family from the start or if they eventually introduce Robin(s) and others.

Always down for more Batman interpretations and takes from people. Glad we're still getting Battinson, too.
