Joel McHale being don draper for a second was fun. knew he wasnt going to but was so tense wondering if carm would've snapped and started a fight/would Richie jump to his defense, etc. but just that one tear 😢
It was very good. I loved most of it. I think some of the criticisms on it are valid. It didn't quite hit the heights of season 2 but it really didn't feel that far off from season 1 in terms of being just a slice of life dramedy.
Main criticism was the Sydney plotline of "sign or don't sign" shouldn't have been dragged on all season. That subplot definitely highlighted the actual lack of real movement this season. Really felt like this season was more of a setup for season 4. Also I didnt think dedicating an entire episode to Natalie and DD was necessary. It was great to spend more time with them, especially Jamie Lee, but it was a little too much for me.
But as usual, the directing, acting (oh the acting), dialogue writing/ improv, and music were spot-on. Loved the Tina episode Napkins. Loved Carmy confronting Joel McHale's character in the finale. The montages are always great. Loved the after-party montage at the end of the last episode. So good to just see these characters let loose and enjoy life a bit.
So yeah, very good, great even, if not as jaw droppingly good as Forks or Fishes. Every season can't be the best season, and I'm thinking season 4 is maybe set up to potentially be the best.

Very much this. Totally felt like a Season 3a rather than Season 3. It very much felt like nothing got resolved for the entire season and a few things got introduced.
Will Sydney sign? What did the review say? How bad are Jimmy's money problems? Are Carmy and Claire getting back together? Are Carmy and Richie going to forgive each other? How will Sugar having the baby affect her presence in the restaurant?

Finished the season today and overall I enjoyed it quite a bit but not as much as season 2. I read that they are filming seasons 3 and 4 together and that we night get season 4 as soon as this fall which would probably make this more of a season 3a and 3b situation and explain why there wasn't as much forward progress in the story.

I loved the first three episodes of this season and then it started falling off for me. If it's a season 3A/3B situation, I feel it should have been promoted as such instead of just sticking "To Be Continued" at the very end, cause it felt weirdly paced otherwise, and doing so would have made spending so many episodes on specific character's stories more understandable.

Had a feeling Michelin was happening with that. But do we know if it got picked up or not? Along with the review coming at the end. Its gonna be a tense premiere for season 4 if it starts off with all that.
So lets say they got a star, and the times review is what it is. Then what?

They didnt film it all together either so I think it just got to that point and they added it which obviously fucked us all over. 2 scenes have been filmed for season 4 due to timing and avaiilability.

Binged all three seasons for the first time in the last week. Season 3 felt like a drop off from the final 5 eps of season 2, but not a drop off from the first 1.5 seasons. It was good. I enjoyed it. I probably could have lived without it as they didn't cover a ton of new territory.
Random thought I was kinda hoping that Carmy told Chef Terry about the way the douchebag chef used to treat him and maybe talk to her about "coaching styles" and whatnot. Was hoping the confrontation with McHale would have been more impactful but idk exactly what I wanted.
Ok so Ebon gave some clarification on the filming of season 3 and 4. He says they filmed 18 episodes. But there was another report that I cant find which says they only did what I had mentioned above. So who the hell knows. But obviously they kept expanding and this shit got out of control. I guess Chris Storer didnt listen to Joe Mchale and to subtract?
They ended up shooting season three and four together. At least, he thinks they did.
“We shot about 18 episodes,” he says. “But everything shifts. In the past, what was one episode on the page has been split into two. I just lose myself in the messiness and chaos of it. I like getting taken by a wave that’s bigger than you thought it was, tumbled around and spit out the other end.”
