Kim is probably the most exciting ‘metal’ artist to shake shit up in a long time. He/they rose to fame with a metal cover of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi which was released on TikTok. In 2022 and 2023 Kim released a series of videos and collaborations which will appear on the album. The music takes surprise twists and turns and can incorporate as many as 8 or 9 different genres in a given song. So first listen to any of it will generally surprise the listener as proven by the cottage industry of reaction channels looking at her material. I don’t know who all Kim worked with on the album since it doesn’t come out until tomorrow. I’m also not sure what all instruments Kim plays on the album or if it’s only voice (and the best metal voice in years). But for now, here are 3 videos released that likely will be included.
Make Me Famous is a dark look at the insanity surrounding mass shootings and police killings. It’s a multi genre song with a nod to Gerard Way in one part.
Seventy Thorns is a look inside the mind of a monster. It reminds me a little of Kathy Bates’ character in the 1990 classic, “Misery.’ It features Korn’s Jonathan Davis singing the chorus “I want to be the one who hurts you. I want to be the one that cares. Feelings intense they’re hard to swallow. It feeds the fear.” The song is kind of an ode to Jonathan and features some scat early on.
Drown seems like an ode to a toxic lover that you would have done almost anything for but angrily came to your senses and wished them nothing but death for causing the pain they did
Kim had some other collabs out with Lil Peep and $B but I won’t know until tomorrow if they are from the album or just some side releases. It promises to be good and an album that will be remembered fondly in the future. Kim said it was the hardest thing ever done, but is excited about the release.
Not sure if this collaboration with Tech N9ne and Hush will be on the album but it’s good as fuck. Trap metal/hard hip hop. Tech N9ne posted it so maybe not. But we will find out.
