cool cool. i find it interesting you aren't a fan of All Eyez On Me, since you are one of inforoo's resident youths. I feel like 2Pac's legacy hasn't held up as well as other huge musicians from his time. At the time it felt like he was bigger than Biggie, Pac just had such a massive personality, when he was on screen you couldn't take your eyes off of him (lol no pun intended, honestly).
i think ultimately Biggie was the most talented, arguably the greatest MC of all time, but Pac was like the Muhammed Ali of hip-hop, he knew how to get attention and sell it. But he had the bangers to back it up.
My dad is a old head so I pretty much only grew up on either Chicago and East Coast hiphop from 80-90s. He was kind of a Tupac hater and said he was too poppy, so bc of that I never really got into him aside from his movies which are pretty great.
I personally think Tupac is solid. It's really hard to judge someone like him and others that died super young but I don't really think theres a good argument when people say Tupac is the GOAT. Same goes with Jimi x Kurt x Biggie x Juice.
Growing up though Biggie, KRS One, Slick Rick were my favs. Now a days I truly think Kendrick is the GOAT
respect all that. i definitely don't think Pac was the GOAT.
i don't have the technical data to backup my claim that Biggie is the GOAT MC, i just know when i listen to his flow it captures my imagination in a way that no other rapper really does.
I believe the Notorious B.I.G. was the greatest rapper who’s ever lived. I remember in ’94, when Ready to Die came out, I was in 11th grade, living in my mother’s house in Virginia. There was a frenzy at my high school, arguing and talking about that album. We used to spend hours in the car, reciting his raps, trying to figure out what in the hell made him veer off in this way or that way. Some rappers just say a punchline, and it’s like, “OK, we get it.” But Big delved deep. He was a master painter with words. And his flow was just so effortless. I mean, I think I’m an awesome writer, but my bars still sound like bars. Big had all these intricacies, all these colors, all these witty things – and it didn’t sound like a rap. It was a conversation.
imo thats really the true championship. The best rock album of that decade vs the best hip hop album of all time.
As long as either one of those beat OK Computer id be happy tho
both The Chronic and All Eyez On Me are better hip-hop albums than Illmatic IMO.
Cosign. Maybe biased because I'm from the west coast but I've always preferred the production on All Eyez on Me and the Chronic way more than Illmatic. And this is coming from someone that definitely respects Nas's flow
I dont think the AEOM production has aged well outside of Ambitions and some other bopz. Tons of filler like all Pac albums.
When it comes to production, its completely subjective I guess. But I still love the beats on AEOM. 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted, Ambitionz, All Eyez on Me, Can't C Me, Cali Love, No More Pain, Only God Can Judge Me, Picture Me Rollin, Ratha Be, Shortly Wanna Be, Trading War Stories, When We Ride... all still bangers for me.

it's bloated for sure. but ambitions, how do u want it, 2 of amerikaz most wanted, california love, i ain't mad at cha, can't c me, shorty wanna be a thug, and rather be ya n---- are all great. pretty good hit to filler ratio for a 90s hip-hop record.
while i think like 90% of big release 90s hip-hop albums production hasn't aged well, i agree AEOM production hasn't aged well, and that generally speaking Bad Boy beats have aged better.

I don''t know if I agree that most 90s production aged poorly or that there was a ton of filler either. I don't feel that way on either variable about The Infamous, Soul Food, Liquid Swords, OB4CL, Doe Or Die, Mystic Stylez, ATLiens, Reasonable Doubt, Ridin Dirty, It Was Written, or Illadeplh Halflife... and I view all of those as equal or (mostly) better albums from the same year or the year before.
As with almost any double album, cut it to 1 disc, 14 songs and now we're talking.
I think my main knock on the 90s NY street sound is just that there was too much of it (all sounding similar), not that it was bad.
