Jack is playing a show in Nashville on Saturday, not impossible but assuming he does guest with Conan that would just about eliminate the quad set chances (and I’d be shocked if he was there but not with Conan personally)
I’m putting Friday as much more likely than Conan. He’s got an album to promote, I think playing it in full at Newport is more enticing to him than kicking Dawes off stage and playing “we’re going to be friends” with Conan

I bet when Conan was booking guests for his set Jack would have been his very first call. The man got the White Stripes to reunite for the one and only time since their breakup. I just can’t imagine Jack saying no but then showing up two days later to play the quad.

He’s the only guy I’ve ever seen switch an entire band out mid song and never stop the song or miss a beat. Probably the most insane thing I’ve ever seen anyone do on stage. If he wants to make things that hard on himself, I could see taking 3 plane rides in 4 days.

From a guy that just gave out physical media of his record for free and is playing a show for no money at a Legion hall, I’m not putting a lot of stock in him needing to be a headliner. I bet he finds a mid day surprise tent set to be more exciting. Also lines up with the “he needs to fly out that night for his show the next day” theory

For what it’s worth, someone on the Newport page who’s been active and around a while just said that they just got some information that they can’t reveal “that all signs point to Jack”. The context is he works at a record store. My guess is he got information on the no name records being around town or on their way. But that’s just a guess as far as what the information is.

Yeah, i get all that. And it makes sense. I'm not suggesting that he thinks he would need to be a headliner but if it's someone that big then you'd think the festival would make it happen. But just a guess. I still am a big believer in this set likely not being anything huge or major so that's also kind of where my thinking is coming from. But who knows? They've had Kris Kristofferson just show up to a "random" set before so maybe?
