How was the weather last year as far as rain/storms go?
I know I read a lot about how muddy and stormy and everything was, but it wasn't until after reading threads for 2 hours that I noticed the dates were all the way back in 04. I don't know if half the things I read were in the right time frame. Oh silly me. I never think about Summer in Tennessee and imagine RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS AND CRAZY WINDS THAT'LL SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF YOU. But I could be wrong, and with my luck, I probably will be.
Do you suggest I just bring the rain gear Just.In.Case? I guess it wouldn't hurt. It's just that lugging it all the way out to the camping only area... I dunno. We'll see. I mean, I'll be in a car for 14 hours prior to arrival (plus the 3 hour wait in line), so I think a nice, struggling walk out to the campsite would be good.
This will be my first Festival and I'm very excited, but apparently, very unprepared. But I guess that's half the experience.
You should probably just leave it at that. When you say "rain gear," I'm assuming you mean a slicker of some sort or possibly a full rain suit. Couple that with temperatures somewhere between 85 and 100 and you're looking at some time in the medical tent. Are you planning on camping in the "camping only" section? If not, it's all camp by car, so you won't have to lug anything anywhere.

Yeah, we're looking at staying in the Camping Only area. But I've thought about it and it won't be much else to carry, I plan on shoving it all in a huge box on wheels anyway. It shoudln't be that bad.
Just buy cheap rain ponchos...$0.99 or less. It's hot and humid if it rains you'll be happy, trust me. You will want to have dry clothes though...for when the rain stops.
in 04 it was so hot it was ridiculoous... when it finally did rain everyone cheered... but then it poured on sat... forced the dead to play late... the rain was bad... it wouldve been nice during the day.. but it was hot all day and then it would be rainy and cold when it got dark.. in 05 it was in my opinion perfect... it was light rain during the daytime which killed the heat.. it was awesome... there were a couple times after dark i wish it woulda went away... i think i was almost hypothermic at widespread till i went back for a sweat shirt and poncho ... but all in all it dosent bother you nearly as much as youd think it would... everyone has such a good time ya just deal with it and carry on with the party
and by the way.. im not sure when ya plan on arriving but 3 hours is optimistic... we get there early thursday morning and have to wait three hours before they even start letting people in and after that it has been another 4 or 5 hours in line to get in.... but once again its not that bad... its a little party in itself waiting in line... i recommend only walkin forward in line.. in 04 we went to walmart right across the street and the line started moving... it was a long walk to catch up...evrytime we thought we were geting close the line would start moving for 5 minutes...fortunatly there were lots of friendly people that let us hop on and catch a ride when it did move

I keep hearing different things from different people about how long the wait will be to get in... I guess I'll just get there when I get there...
I ran into a guy at work yesterday (wearing a Donavon Frankenreiter hat) and we started talking about 'Roo and he said he's gone the last two years and it's a 17 hour drive from where we are... Somehow I don't think 700 miles will take 17 hours...
I live in Louisville Kentucky, which is a 3.5 hr drive to Manchester on a normal day. It took us 16 hours in 2003 to get from my house to the gate. The next year was 13 hours. Last year from house to campsite was only 8. I leave wed. night/thurs morning around 2 am every year but 03 when I left Thurs around 1pm. The drive to Manchester takes no time at all, but once you hit the standstill, it can take a LOOOONG time.
