it's interesting how long Trebeck has made it. While Ferrell is very good in the role, it's one of the few situations where he is the least silly person in a scene. He's not a total straight man but I think it's about as close as he comes to being one.
Not advocating for it's removal, great sketch and great performance.

His reactions rly lend to the sketch.
Will plays great in serious roles too tho... Loved 'Stranger Than Fiction'... And 'Everything Must Go' too.

Side note: one of my all time favorite movie lines is “Unfortunately, this guitar said: ‘When I get back to Georgia, that woman gonna feel my pain.’” (Delivered in proper Emma Thompson British of course.)

i remember enjoying "Everything Must Go" but it's been a while. but yeah Ferrell is a talented actor for sure, he's just gotten a lot more accolades for his comedic roles.
i'm a big proponent of the idea that really good comedic acting is much harder than really good dramatic acting. more likely to see a comedic actor cross over to dramatic acting then vice versa (Bill Hader and Adam Sandler come to mind).
like this is gonna be top 10? cowbell is iconic, and he really hits that bell. and I think all the straight man arguments, and being a foil for other funny characters like trebek and gene apply to all of these skits but it's not as funny.

You obviously never actually watched James Lipton. LOL
EDIT: but it is the right vote now, imo. I just went and looked at what was going on.
