Hey yinz, it's Secret Santa time again! I have sort of appointed myself as the Secret Santa every year from now until forever, but if you'd like to do it, please feel free to contact me; I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I've been kind of down recently, so I needed something to cheer me up. This is to answer all questions about why it's going up three weeks before Halloween (though I will note that it went up before Halloween last year too - what can I say, I love the holidays).

I will randomly assign a Secret Santa to everyone using a number generator. If there are special requests, I may make tweaks as necessary. If you wish to remain anonymous when sending, please let me know so you don't end up with my name.
2. Answer the questions below in a reply to this thread. Your Secret Santa once assigned will review those answers to determine what to give you. If you would rather not list your answers here in the thread, please do so in your email. We can make that work. And if you know of members on here who might not see this thread, tell them about it. The more the merrier!
3. Secret Santas will be given out on (or around) Sunday, November 20th. Once you've been assigned a person, check this thread, but PLEASE, DO NOT reveal who you have. OK? Deal. If you need me to fish for some ideas for your person, just let me know.
4. Please, let's try to ship all gifts by Friday, December 16th. Gifts DO NOT have to be purchased. Feel free to be creative and create or craft a gift. If you do intend on purchasing a gift, let’s try to keep it in the $20 range. Inflation has not come to inforoo dot com.
5. Don't be "that person". If you participate and are assigned as someone's Secret Santa, don't leave them without a gift. Please be prepared to participate if you e-mail me. That being said, bad things do happen, so if you have to drop out for some reason, please let me know so arrangements can be made.
6. Registration requirements: With personal information being handed out, there is no choice but to keep this somewhat secure. The threshold that was decided on in years past was a minimum of 500 posts AND/OR 2 years account activity. Should you not meet these requirements but still want to participate, please post in this thread and have someone vouch for you. In addition, participants must be in good standing with the moderator team.

Earlier this summer, my dad inadvertently roasted the shit out of me by saying "you really like songs with guys talking over beats, don't you?" when I was playing Arab Strap. However, as irritating of an answer as it is, I do try and listen to a lot of different things, but my musical preferences tend to go towards the danceable, loud, and lyrical.

I have an encyclopedic knowledge of The Amazing Race and in general like other CBS reality shows. As far as movie goes, I like culty/weird stuff, Satoshi Kon, and screwball comedies.

I rarely eat out. But my favorite fast food is definitely Culver's.

1. What is your favorite genre of music? Mainly an indie rock guy, but I’ve also been leaning more into psychedelic stuff these days, as well as some disco and house. Generally speaking, there’s not a genre of music of which I won’t find at least something to like.
2. What is your favorite musical artist? Pearl Jam is and will always be #1. Also: My Morning Jacket, LCD Soundsystem, TV on the Radio, King Gizz, Radiohead, St. Vincent, Sylvan Esso, Black Angels...I’ll stop.
3. What is your t-shirt size? Generally XL, although I sometimes land in L territory depending on the fit.

5. What is your favorite non-music related hobby? If playing music (I play guitar, bass, and drums, and am learning piano/keys) and DJing/mixing records doesn’t count, then: Surfing, playing D&D, reading, and yoga. I used to collect hobbies like crazy but I haven’t had as much time for all of it since my daughter was born.

I’ve also been falling asleep on the couch to Suits for the past month – I’m somehow in Season 4 but only know some of what’s happened since I’ve slept through a lot of episodes. TV, all-time: The Wire, Star Treks other than Voyager or Enterprise, Battlestar Galactica, Mr. Show, Mr. Robot, The Americans Movies: Star Wars Eps. 4-8 + Rogue One, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, anything directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Sleeping With Other People, High Fidelity, Everything Everywhere All at Once, 2/3 of Nolan’s Batman movies (Begins and Dark Knight), Labyrinth, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Once...this list could go on forever.
9. What is your favorite book? I re-read The Lord of the Rings every couple years, so it’d probably be that. I also love really good books about music/bands – Meet Me in the Bathroom, Our Band Could Be Your Life, Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, Long Road: Pearl Jam and the Soundtrack of a Generation, Everybody Loves Our Town, etc.
10. What is your favorite restaurant/fast food joint? Mighty Oak Roasters in Astoria, Queens gets all my money for coffee, all the time. I don’t really do fast food – but I order on Seamless from local places all the time.
11. What is your favorite "Munchies"? I am a cookie monster, but only if chocolate in some form is involved. I’ve also been big on popcorn, lately.
12. Are you a collector of anything? Vinyl, musical instruments and guitar effects pedals, ambitious creative projects that I’ll never finish, books, cool (by my definition, anyway) band t-shirts.

When I was in sixth grade, we did a session in class where we watched The Voyage of the Mimi in which a crew of a ship goes out and studies humpback whales. That kicked off my marine biologist phase. My family took note of my interest in whales, and my grandfather told me that when I was a senior in high school, he’d take me to Hawaii to go whale watching. I feel like that promise might have gone the way of my mom’s pony and my little brother’s jet ski, but my dad died in the summer before my junior year, and I think they felt sorry for me, so he actually took me to Hawaii for a week my senior year. Bonus because whale watching season and school breaks did not coincide, so I got to miss school for it. (He also took me to Mexico that year.)
Side note, in addition to the humpback whales, the Voyage of the Mimi also featured a very young Ben Affleck.
