That's not the point, the opinion piece I shared isn't anymore or less valid than the one rummy shared. It's just someone's opinion, it doesn't mean it's true.
oooooooooof that article is a rough read but no i wont say their opinion is not valid. of course Jewish pain is important to perceive and acknowledge; again, i dont think anyone in this thread thinks otherwise. i agree with that piece of the author's article but not stuff like:
"But what Israelis think and say remains mostly in Israel, far from global media. It is the Arabs and Muslims who set the global narrative, who have repeatedly turned the Jews' fight for sovereignty into a fight over real estate"
like im sorry but what??? Israeli media reach is far far greater than Palestinian -- not to mention bolstered significantly by its pro israel allies like the US mostly touting their views in its own media; and given how Gaza has mostly been cut off from internet and cell service at this point while IDF soldiers can make tiktoks with their fully charged phones in their fully functioning and powered homes,
And then: "Israel must fight for its survival" coming from an Arab-identifying person while their people are being bombed indiscriminately and Israelis are almost entirely at home far away from being mass murdered like that (of course excepting the hostages, but I said "almost entirely" not "entirely").... that's brutal.
but it goes to show that some Arabic persons are going to hold views that do not prioritize the ceasing of fire upon their people, and although i believe they are certainly in a minority, of course they still deserve a voice. which this article gave them.

Yes. Opinions aren’t facts.. But this is one of the dumbest and most dishonest opinions I’ve seen..

nice catch haha i stand by all my criticisms of that article (not all of which i listed because i dont need to write an essay in response)

I never said or implied I agree with the author. I used the piece to make a point, which I already pointed out, which you don't seem to understand.
Ah yes, that tired decolinization argument. The land never belonged to the Palestinians, and if the Arabs had won in 1948 they weren't going to hand that land over to the Palestinians either.

You could have just said that opinions aren’t facts or something of the likes but you posted an opinion piece by someone who clearly has some incentive to back Israel lol..

I did say that, and then I shared another example to prove my point.

If only Inforoo existed in 2001. I’d truly be interested to see what arguments would occur
Yeah, thousands of civilians were killed in Afghanistan after the U.S invaded... so I wonder what the arguments would have been then. But I think the reactions we see are more so about the time were in nowadays than any geography so idk.

We have a hell of a lot of privilege from a global perspective that we are not militarily threatened by our neighboring countries, and in general are in minimal threat from domestic attacks.
Imagining what it would be like to share a border with someone who will invade your lands (looking at both sides here) and kill You mercilessly is terrifying.

wait are you suggesting that you think a good number of the pro palestine folks here in 2023 were... pro US invading Afghanistan in 2001?
i mean i can only speak for myself but i sure as fuck wasnt.

I’m asking you. Probably not great to hide in a hospital, but a lot lot worse to be the ones bombing that hospital.
Both things are bad. Hamas is using the hospital as a base knowing that civilians will get caught in the crossfire. You can't have the second thing without the first thing.
I wonder if there’s anything else this line of reasoning could be applied to

No, I wasn't trying to suggest anything. But I'd guess if someone were trying to suggest something, or correlate the two events, it would be the opposite... that being against the Afghanistan invasion.
So just to clarify, you were against the U.S going into Afghanistan?
If hundreds of members of a cartel from Mexico came across the border in a calculated attack and slaughtered 1200 Americans and took another few hundred as hostages, our military would probably wipe whole Mexican cities off the map.
I guess that’s what conservatives are so afraid of. Maybe that’s a big reason why they seem to be so sympathetic to Jewish people all the sudden and so pro-Israel.
I’m not making a point as much as I’m just talking out loud. I’ve been so confused why my parents suddenly gaf about Israel
